Friendsgiving: Help Others, and Yourself

Hello CBS,

November has arrived, and with it comes cooler weather and falling leaves. Our campus is full of beautiful nooks and crannies (like the arboretum's redwood grove above) where you can find a few moments of pause and peace. November also brings the last of your fall quarter midterms and the Thanksgiving break.

Today, we invite our CBS community to draw inspiration from—and put our own twist on—a popular seasonal tradition ... Friendsgiving. Over the next three weeks, look around in each of your classes. Turn to your fellow CBS students and ask for—or offer—help. That help can take many forms.

Here are a few ways you can help others, and yourself:

In each of these gestures, you’ll be giving yourself—and your CBS friends—the support and resources needed to successfully wrap up the fall quarter. Friends, giving.

And if, by chance, one of those gestures happens to be a meal together with friends who are family, enjoy these science tips to decode your Friendsgiving dinner!

Self-care doesn’t mean you carve out a bunch of time to lounge luxuriously, after which you descend into stress about everything you are not doing (homework, lab work, research, etc.). Self-care lies in your daily routine and choices, and it happens when you invest in yourself.
