Twenty-First Sunday after Pentecost - October 13, 2024

Help After the Hurricanes

It has been a hard few weeks in North Carolina, Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee. As recovery efforts begin in the wake of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, you may be wondering how to help.

The Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is our church's national disaster response agency for moments like this. You can learn more about their work here. I can recommend them wholeheartedly as a worthy group to either support financially or connect with to provide other kinds of aid to help the hurricane recovery effort.

My own experience in the middle of a major flood years ago also makes it easy for me to recommend the Salvation Army. They have a way of being where they are needed with what is needed with a minimum of red tape and bureaucracy. They do the work in Christ's name.

While it is too early to know what will come next, I am in contact with an Anglican church in Florida. My thinking right now is that there may be an opportunity for Epiphany to directly partner with them going forward, depending on what is needed. Stay tuned.

God bless,

Senior Lunch Next Week

The next seniors’ 50%-off luncheon will be at the I-HOP on Metrotech Drive on Wednesday, October 16, the third Wednesday of the month.  We will meet just once a month for the remainder of this calendar year. If anyone has questions, call Vonda Sines at 703-850-1230.

Giving Thanks for Those Who Have Died

It is our practice at Epiphany to give thanks for the lives of those who have died over the past year on All Saints Sunday (November 3).  If you would like someone to be included on the list of those we will remember during our All Saints Sunday service, please place their name on the list in the fellowship hall, or send an email to Mtr. Pamela (pmeeks@epiphanyanglican.net).

Coffee Hour Set-Up: Still Seeking Help

Our efforts to identify help with coffee hour on Sunday are off to a bit of a slow start. Would you consider stepping forward?  Each Sunday Epiphany provides food for coffee hour and many of us gather together to talk and build relationships after the service.  We need people who can take that provided food, plate it up, and place it on the coffee hour food counter before the 10:15am service begins.  Then, when coffee hour is complete, clean up. Right now, this work is being done by Epiphany's clergy and staff, which is challenging when there are activities between the services like adult education.  If you, or your group, would be willing to do this one Sunday every month or two, contact Deacon Sally (shoover@epiphanyanglican.net) to learn more.

Fruit Flies and the Work of God's Fingers

Next Coates food delivery November 4

We will make our next delivery to the food pantry at Coates Elementary School on Monday, November 4. We especially need donations of foods such as beans, rice, and pasta as well as canned tuna, chicken, vegetables, soups and stews. Cash donations can also be made, specifying Coates. Any questions? Contact Sally Eckard (sseckard@verizon.net) or Melanie Kobos (melkobo@yahoo.com).

Pumpkin Carving Event Oct. 27

Back by popular demand, we are hosting a pumpkin carving fun night for you & your friends. Join us Sunday, October 27 from 6:30pm-8:00pm here in our fellowship hall. Signup here. This is a relaxed and fun event & we will have pumpkins to paint for the younger children. We provide one pumpkin for each child so it is important that you sign up using our app or in person so we have enough pumpkins for the kids. Bring chips or dessert to share. This is not a dinner event. Direct questions to: (pmeeks@epiphanyanglican.net).

Handbell Choir Welcoming New Members

Now is the perfect time to start ringing handbells with us! We will have a few members out on travel over the coming weeks, so we’d like to invite YOU to come see what this is all about. All our ringers started with no experience, but now we are skilled and able to offer beautiful music. We rehearse following the Sunday 10:15 service in the music room (behind the altar and choir area). Questions? Ask Brad Johnson (bravhorn22@aol.com) or any of the bell ringers you happen to see after church!
