Warming Tree Donations Accepted Until December 8
We will continue our holiday tradition of collecting warm hats, gloves, scarves, and blankets to donate to members of our community once again this year.

We are currently accepting donations for this year's Warming Tree. PUD employees, Board Members, and customers are all invited to donate items.

All items will be distributed to families in Columbia County. We ask that donations be turned in by December 8, so we are able to deliver them in time for Christmas. Items may be new, handmade, or gently used.
Test Your GenerLink Before Storms Arrive
If you have a GenerLink transfer switch, it is important to test it ahead of winter storm season. Follow these steps to test your generator and GenerLink:

  1. Warm up your generator.
  2. Shut it off.
  3. Turn off the breakers in your house.
  4. Connect your generator to the GenerLink.
  5. Start your generator.
  6. Turn on the breakers in the house that you want on.
5 Ways to Reduce Heating Costs this Winter
  1. Lower your thermostat and dress a little warmer. You can save 2% on your heating costs for every degree you lower your thermostat. We recommend setting it no lower than 55 degrees.
  2. If you have zonal heat, only heat the rooms you actively use.
  3. Clean or replace your furnace filters regularly.
  4. Keep furniture, decorations, window coverings, and other items away from heaters.
  5. If you have central heat, consider lowering your thermostat and using a space heater in your bedroom at night.
Keep Yourself Safe from Utility Scam Attempts
Posing as a utility employee is a common scam technique. Scammers will try this in person, over the phone, via text, or by email.

Typically, they will threaten to shut off your power if they don't receive immediate payment.

Please be wary of these attempts. These tips can help you avoid becoming a victim.
Give the Gift of Light and Warmth this Year
Are you looking for an original gift idea this holiday season? You can give the gift of light and warmth with our Gift Payment Program.

Making a gift payment is simple. You can make a gift payment on any PUD customer's account by going online or by calling our Customer Accounts Department at (503) 397-0590.

We will mail a gift certificate to the recipient. Or, if you prefer, we will mail the certificate to you to present to the recipient.
Holiday Lighting Tips
  1. Switch to LEDs. If you haven't done so yet, changing your old incandescent holiday lights to LEDs can lower your lighting costs.
  2. Use a timer. Set your lights to come on and shut off at a certain time each night.
  3. Never plug too many strands of lights into one outlet. Don't connect more than three strands of lights.
  4. Avoid hazards. Don't run strings of lights or extension cords through snow or water.
  5. Use clips or staples instead of nails to hang your lights.
