Help Support Matt Watroba's New Radio Show
The Ten Pound Fiddle is underwriting a new radio show-Folk with Matt Watroba, and we need your help!
On October 1, 2017, WKAR-Radio, 90.5 FM, launched Folk with Matt Watroba, airing Sunday evenings from 6 to 8 PM & concurrently streamed. A brilliant show, it reaches listeners all the way from Flint & the Detroit suburbs to Kalamazoo & Grand Rapids. There is serious talk of syndication.
Since 1986, Matt Watroba has hosted and produced radio shows, including the popular Folks Like Us on Detroit's WDET, & syndicated shows for the Sing Out! Radio Magazine & Folk Alley. For 22 years, Folks Like Us was a central part of the Michigan folk scene connecting lovers of folk music with new and traditional musicians. Matt is a great choice to host a new show.
The Ten Pound Fiddle believes that high quality folk music programming on the radio is an essential component of the music mix in Michigan. We appreciate the on-going commitment to folk music programming by WLNZ, 89.7 FM, Lansing Community College radio, & we are excited to add a folk show at WKAR, with its wider geographic coverage.
The opportunity to become an underwriter of Matt's new show came up very quickly. The Ten Pound Fiddle membership voted to commit $5000 to underwrite Folk with Matt Watroba for the coming year. However, our yearly operating budget does not have an extra $5000 in it, so we are asking you, the folk music community in Michigan, to partner with us in this exciting venture.
To raise funds for Folk with Matt Watroba, the Ten Pound Fiddle has launched an online GoFundMe campaign:
The initial goal of $5000 is enough for the Ten Pound Fiddle to support the show through September, 2018. Any additional funds in this campaign will be used for the show in future years.
Please note there is a 5% GoFundMe processing fee, deducted from funds donated through the website. If you want to avoid this fee and allow all of your donations to go to the Ten Pound Fiddle to underwrite Matt's show, you can write a check and send it directly to the Ten Pound Fiddle, P.O.Box 4486, East Lansing, MI 48826. Please include "Folk with Matt Watroba" on the memo line. A running total of all donations will be posted at www.tenpoundfiddle.org
All donations will receive our gratitude, plus a receipt for your donation. The Ten Pound Fiddle is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization, which means your donations are tax deductible.
Thank you for your past support of the Ten Pound Fiddle and folk music and dance in Michigan, and for considering this new opportunity to expand folk music on the radio.
