Issue #32 | October 2020
Hello Changemakers - from all of us here at United Way Youth Venture. Happy October!

We had an exciting month. A McKay Arts Academy UWYV Team, School Funders, just held the first fundraiser of this new school year (and the first ever completely virtual one!). Douglas Mata who also launched the first FY21 Team from our summer programming at McKay hosted a virtual trivia Kahoot! event! It was a great success and lots of fun for all who participated.

We are working on a brand new website which will likely be complete around the first of the year. It will encompass more fully all of our programming and be a hub for students, parents and the community. It will include pages and functionality for those who want to participate or learn more about United Way Youth Venture, Changemaking and Portrait of a Graduate.

Please help us support our Portrait of a Graduate work by reading below about the study/survey we are conducting to get your thoughts on what a graduate would need to be successful in college, career, or community!

Students - please look below for a new poll - just for you! And please be sure to read more about asking for your help in designing our new Fall Kickoff event.

As always, we appreciate you and thank you for your continued support! And please click the icons just below to follow us on social media! Thank you!

Help us design our "new" Fall Kickoff!

We know you were disappointed that life threw us all a curve ball and we couldn't host our annual Fall Kickoff event in person. We were very disappointed, as well. We missed seeing all of you and watching you have fun, learn a lot AND get inspired to do great things.

But don't worry, we have something else up our sleeves, a very exciting and engaging Virtual Kickoff event (tentatively scheduled for January 29, 2021!).

We would like to get your input and help in building and designing it! As always, the event is created with students in mind. So who better to help us create it than students? We are securing a very innovative and engaging virtual event programming platform. It won't be your typical Google Classroom or Zoom-type event. It is very cool and might even blow your mind!

What we would like to know:
  • Who should be the keynote speaker?
  • What topics would you like to learn about?
  • How do you want to network with your peers?
  • What is important to you that we include?
  • And ANYTHING else you want to share!

You can respond to this email and share your ideas. Or you can let us know you wish to officially become a member of the design committee!

Will you help us? Please do. We need you!
What should we call our NEW January "Fall Kickoff" event? Tentatively scheduled for Jan 29.
January Jamboree
Winter Windup
Neither! I'll respond to this email with my suggestion
Congratulations to the McKay Venture Team, School Funders, who hosted a very successful Kahoot! trivia fundraiser on Tuesday evening!

Folks who purchased a ticket to play for $10 had the chance to use their knowledge of science, entertainment, sports, and more, for a chance to come out on top and win an Amazon gift card!

Congratulations go to the winners, Mrs. Leighton, Miss Alex and Vivienne! Way to go all and congratulations Douglas Mata on hosting a very special and successful event! We are proud of you!
The Portrait of a Graduate team is conducting a study to help discover what a high school graduate would need to be successful in college, career or community. And we invite you to participate.
