Season’s Greetings! 

During this holiday season, many of us are worrying about purchasing the right gifts or stressing about hosting loved ones for a holiday meal. However, there are many families and individuals in Massachusetts whose only concern is whether they will have a roof over their heads.

Although Metro Housing|Boston assists thousands of individuals every year, the need for stable housing that is affordable for the most financially vulnerable people continues to intensify. Over the past year, homelessness in Massachusetts has sharply increased. Here at Metro Housing, we have seen this rise reflected in the number of people we serve through HomeBASE, a state program designed to provide people with housing options and services that reduce the need to live in emergency shelters. Prior to 2023, we served annually an average of 90 households with HomeBASE. Today, we are providing stabilization services to almost 700 families and working with property owners to keep them housed. Your commitment to our mission enables us to accommodate these families and individuals and assist them to get into and remain in safe and stable homes.

At the federal level, we do not know how the new administration will impact the programs we use. However, we do know that stable housing is out of reach for many people and the need is crucial. Thankfully, I am confident that with your continued support for our mission, together, we will continue to provide stable housing for those most at risk.

Help Us Keep Families Housed This Winter

Yris spent two-and-a-half years in between shelters and apartments owned by the shelter provider, Economic Mobility Pathways (EMPath). She came to the U.S. in 2019 and lost the room she shared when she became pregnant because her landlord did not want a child in the apartment. 

Earlier this year, using Metro Housing’s rapid housing program, she moved into a two-bedroom apartment in Brookline where she has access to good schools and plenty of playgrounds for her son. Most importantly, Yris and her son can celebrate the holidays in the comfort of their home.

Since 2006, Team Metro Housing has raised over $700,000 through athletic events to prevent homelessness and promote housing stability in Boston. Initially partnering with the B.A.A.'s Boston Marathon, we've expanded our involvement to include other races like Boston’s Run to Remember. Each year, we recruit a diverse team of community members, families, and friends who share our mission.

A longtime Metro Housing donor, Todd Robinson is also one of Team Metro Housing’s runners. Most recently, he participated in Run to Remember this past Memorial Day.​​

HCEC Now Taking Walk-ins

The HCEC Team is now taking walk-in appointments for housing-related inquiries on Mondays from 9:30 to noon only. HCEC provides housing search resources, information, referrals, workshops, and assistance on how to apply for housing.

Once we have reached the capacity for the day, participants waiting for appointments will need to schedule their next appointment by calling the Resource Line at 617-425-6700 or Resourceline@metrohouisngboston.org.
