Camp Trexler's 755 acres of pristine woodland in Polk Township.

Camp Trexler is one of the few remaining properties in our area large enough to provide habitat for plants and animals that need a large, unbroken forest, such as bear, foxes, fishers, and a diverse array of birds. Unfragmented forests are also essential to preventing flooding and protecting headwaters and ground water recharge areas, so that the wells in our yards can continue to provide clean, safe drinking water.

For financial reasons, Minsi Trails Council has decided to sell the camp. Under the care of Pocono Heritage Land Trust (PHLT), these 755 acres of forest would be permanently protected in their natural state. Minsi Trails Council has alerted PHLT that they intend to list Camp Trexler for sale in the near future, so the time to act is now. Would you like to see this land protected?

We recently added another item to this petition: a pledge for support.

A Call for Partners

Along with neighbors throughout the area, Pocono Heritage Land Trust wants to save this land from development. In addition to making a full-price offer for this property ourselves, we are also open to teaming up with a partner who shares our passion for the natural world — a hunting club, church group, camp, family, or even an individual — to work together to protect this land. PHLT could purchase a portion of the undeveloped land outright, or place some of the property under a conservation easement, so that even under private ownership, this land would be permanently protected in its natural state.

Protecting this land from development would be the legacy of a lifetime, and a partnership could be the key to making it happen. On behalf of the entire community, we appeal to anyone who thinks they can help — please, don’t delay. Call or email Pocono Heritage Land Trust at 570 424-1514 or [email protected]
