Dear Friends:

For decades, Robert Lake Park—the “Montreat playground"—has been an integral part of the Montreat experience. A hub of Clubs recreation activities, birthday parties, family reunions, and a rock-hopping training ground for generations, Robert Lake Park is a central gathering point for all to play and grow together.

The heavy rains of May in Montreat have severely damaged the park. On Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning, rising waters swept across the park, washing away footbridges and picnic tables and eroding paths and play areas. While the conference center hopes to begin a restoration effort as soon as possible, the park has been closed until repairs can be completed. We will share more details as they are available, but preliminary estimates place the cost of the damage in the range of $80,000 to $100,000.

As the summer is upon us, a sense of urgency compels me to ask that you consider a gift to support the restoration of Robert Lake Park. Special one-time gifts that go above and beyond regular giving to Montreat will help us quickly undertake the task at hand—to reopen Robert Lake Park for the enjoyment of all as soon as possible. Please visit the link below to make a gift for immediate use in the restoration of the park and all that makes it such an important part of the mission and ministry of Montreat.

Of course, many of the elements that make this place so special cannot be washed away at all. We’re grateful for the gift of Robert Lake Park for all these many years, and we look forward to the day when the park is again filled with play toys, muddy feet, and laughter. Regardless of what you are able to do, thank you for your consideration.
