I’m thrilled to send you my first Annual Appeal letter as the new leader of the Lynn Community Health Center! Every day, I’m inspired by the extraordinary work our staff performs. It’s a privilege to lead a team of over 700 dedicated professionals who care for more than 42,000 patients. It’s also humbling to know that we have supporters like you
who make it possible to deliver top-quality, integrated primary and behavioral health care to everyone—no matter their ability to pay. For that, I am deeply grateful.
Our health center is a vital cornerstone of this vibrant Lynn community.
The work we do here isn’t just important—it’s lifesaving and transformative. At our main location on Union Street and beyond, we offer a wide range of services: a state-of-the-art pharmacy, a renowned dental team with a residency program, expert eye care with teaching component, an obstetrics team that delivers over 550 babies each year, dedicated pediatric and addiction services, a refugee clinic, the Recuperative Care Center with a mobile outreach team, 18 School-Based Health Centers, WIC program, Urgent Care, and much more.
What we’ve learned.
Over the years, some of our most impactful work happens when we meet patients where they are, through innovative programs such as our Remote Blood Pressure Monitoring Program.
One of the patients of the program, George*, was limited in the types of blood pressure medications he could take due to allergies. LCHC Nurse Tammy was assigned to George’s case and noticed that despite being prescribed a blood pressure medication, George’s blood pressure was still reading high from home. Tammy described that George was often reluctant to take her calls, however one day she did get through, and as the conversation persisted, George admitted that he wasn’t taking his prescribed blood pressure medication because he was going to die anyways, and that he had stopped taking them when his daughter passed from COVID. Tammy took this opportunity to explain what a “warm handoff” is to the behavioral health department at LCHC, and George accepted this intervention. After three sessions with behavioral health staff, George began taking his blood pressure medications again and his blood pressure was never out of range after that point.
