Lions Club International and Peach Bowl partnership on full display during Game Day on New Year’s Eve

The Peach Bowl was founded in 1967 by Lion George Crumbley and the Atlanta Lions Club as a fundraising platform for Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and is the most philanthropic bowl today. This wonderful partnership between the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and Lions Clubs International (LCI) continues to thrive and once again was on full display this January 31, New Year’s Eve.

It started with the Peach Bowl Parade which serves as the Official Kickoff for Game Day. Over 30 Georgia Lions including two out-of-state International Directors and LCIF Staff replete in their yellow vests braved inclement weather to march through downtown Atlanta. The parade pageantry included Lions, floats, cheerleaders, mascots, marching bands and the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation Mobile Clinic co-piloted by Executive Director, Beth Ehrhardt and Lori Miller, Chief Program Officer.

Later in the afternoon the fun continued at FanFest, a giant indoor fan experience held at the Georgia World Congress Center featuring interactive football events, sponsor exhibits, pep rallies and live entertainment. Georgia Lions were actively involved promoting LCI and distributing over 3,000 Lions-branded towels to fans of both universities.

The day concluded with the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl played at the Mercedes Benz Stadium featuring the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs versus the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes with the winner advancing to the College Football Playoff Championship game. Lions Club International was prominently activated on several digital displays including the Halo Board and digital “ticker tape ribbon” that wrap around the inside of the Stadium with Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation and LCI also receiving strong recognition via several infomercials. The fans were treated to one of the most exciting Peach Bowl games in recent memory, as Georgia was able to erase a 14-point 4th quarter deficit, aided by a missed 50-yard Ohio State field goal attempt in the closing seconds, to win 42-41. Georgia was ultimately crowned the CFP Champions on January 9, 2023 due to their 65-7 dominant win over No. 2 TCU. Go Dawgs!

“As a Georgia Lion, I couldn’t be more proud and grateful for our 55 year old partnership with the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl and how it supports the mission of the Georgia Lions Lighthouse Foundation. The totality of all the Game Day events beginning with the Peach Bowl Parade really brings awareness to the Lions Club organization and the services we provide to communities locally and across the Globe.”
