Dear friends and neighbors,

We started this eventful week with visits to local health and tech companies. I got to talk about the exciting developments that recent legislation, including the CHIPS and Science Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, will bring to Central Florida. I am proud to bring federal funds to support the district's innovation and health care services.

I was also proud to announce a $1.3 million grant to reimburse Orange County Public Schools for pandemic-related expenses. With these costs taken care of, our local schools can focus on investing in high-quality education and supporting students and teachers.

On Tuesday, I announced that I had joined a letter to the Biden Administration urging the president to send Congress a funding request to combat the monkeypox epidemic. It continues to be vital to fund healthcare organizations and stop the spread.

During the second half of the week, I had the opportunity to visit many small businesses in the district. From a small business tour of St. Cloud to Taino's Bakery in East Orlando, I saw how vital local businesses are to our economy and our local communities. I also heard from many businesses about how much they benefitted from Paycheck Protection Program loans, which kept Central Floridians employed and allowed for faster recovery from the pandemic.

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden announced that millions of Americans would have $10,000-$20,000 of federal student loans forgiven. This much-needed move will come as a relief to many young people in Central Florida and fulfills our commitment to pandemic relief and invest in the future.

Tomorrow, representatives from West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the Air Force Academy, and others will be at the Valencia College Osceola campus at 10 a.m. to speak with interested students and families about the admission process. If you can't make it in person, you can watch our live stream at Facebook.com/RepDarrenSoto.

Delivering for Public Schools

Acting to Stop the Spread of Monkeypox
Now that monkeypox has been declared a public health emergency, it is critical that Congress appropriate the necessary funds to address the outbreak. I joined the LGBT Equality Caucus' letter urging the Biden Administration to send a formal request to Congress for supplemental funding to combat the spread of monkeypox. We must act quickly to combat the spread of Monkeypox, support healthcare professionals, and protect our local community.
