As a valued partner in our mission, I wanted to share a story that deeply underscores the importance of the work we do together.
There was a young boy in our community, often referred to as a "frequent flyer" to the principal’s office. Teachers were puzzled by his outbursts and frequent misbehavior. But one day, when the principal gently asked what was happening, his response was heartbreaking. His family had been evicted, and they were living in their car. He confided that he didn’t know where to find food for himself and his little brother, let alone how to focus on his schoolwork.
In that moment, the principal and her team rallied around him, offering the safety, nourishment, and support he desperately needed. This story is a powerful reminder: when children are hungry or struggling with insecurity, school can’t be the place of growth and learning it’s meant to be. For children like him, weekends are especially difficult – they no longer have access to the meals and stability provided at school.
Through the Snack Pak program, we’re working to ensure that hunger is not a barrier to a child’s success. We believe school should always be a safe haven where children can thrive – and with your continued support, we can extend that sense of safety and care through the weekend, giving students the nourishment they need to return ready to learn on Monday.
