The Child Reintergration Centre and Mercy Hospital are on the front lines of the fight against COVID-19
|
Because the memory of the Ebola epidemic is very fresh in the collective conscious of Sierra Leone, there is understandably much fear and apprehension about COVID-19 as it gradually makes its presence known.
The first confirmed case of COVID in Sierra Leone was reported two weeks ago, and as feared, the numbers are increasing in a pattern similar to other countries.
The Sierra Leonean government closed schools in March and issued a lock down/shelter at home order, with a prohibition on cross-district travel. The biggest concern is that throughout the developing world, the economic consequences may be devastating. We are meeting with our partners in Sierra Leone regularly, and we will continue to adjust plans as we receive more information.
As permitted, CRC case managers visit children and families at their homes every 2-3 days to touch base with them and provide support and guidance. If the case managers can't visit, they are calling the families to check on their welfare. Mercy Hospital has incorporated COVID preventive measures into their triage protocol, and has been serving Bo and the surrounding villages with informational workshops. For updates
on the situation, please see our
COVID response page
.
The CRC and Mercy have asked us to help them supply sanitation supplies to their communities, including "Veronica" tap buckets for hand washing, bars of soap, disposable towels (serviettes), and lidded garbage cans. If you would like to help the CRC and Mercy provide supplies to stem the spread of COVID-19 in vulnerable communities, please click on the button below.

Let's celebrate 20 years of transforming lives in Sierra Leone
|
Since 2000, the CRC has rescued hundreds of children from desperate situations, reunited families torn apart by poverty, and transformed the community through faith, dedication, and love.
Today, the CRC continues to provide education, health care, and family mentoring to nearly 600 extremely vulnerable children and youth. CRC case managers are actively engaged in rescuing children from the streets of Bo, where it is estimated that up to 6,000 homeless children survive by begging or street selling.
|
|
Our goal for 2020:
- To rescue 20 street children in Bo and reintegrate them with caring and stable families.
- To provide skills training to 20 vulnerable CRC families so they can become self-sustaining.
Thank you for honoring 20 years of God’s faithfulness to the Child Reintegration Centre. You are making a huge difference for the children and families we serve.

"Lord, we humbly call upon Your name, asking You for supernatural peace and strength. Your Word says that when we pray according to Your will, our prayers are mighty and powerful. You are our Rock, Shield, and Fortress. Lord, protect our families, churches, cities, and nations from the effects of COVID-19.
We ask You to put fresh words of faith, comfort, healing, and salvation in the mouths of Your people around the world. We pray that through this prayer of faith today, fear and worry will lose its grip over our world."
