Mission Team Holds VBS Outreach
Team member Sam with some of the kids who attended.
The December Volunteers in Mission team provided Vacation Bible School with a new twist in 2016, this time focused on the children served by our program who live with their families in the community. For most participants, this was their first VBS experience. Approximately 100 students of all ages from the Child Support and Family Care programs attended a four-day program either at Centenary or Leader United Methodist Church. According to FCP Co-Coordinator, Deborah, "the children were very happy to meet with each other from different programs." US college students led the children in music, Bible stories, arts and crafts, and games.
Construction of the Operating Room wing moving along briskly.
Contractors broke ground on the Mercy Hospital expansion just before Christmas and continue to make great progress. The first floor will hold two separate operating theaters, recovery room, waiting area, and office space. The second floor, which will house a conference room and exam rooms, is under way. Construction should be completed by May 31st.
The new wing will enable the hospital to offer Cesarean section and other life-saving surgeries, procedures which are currently not available to people in the area who can't afford to pay.
