"
Care Leavers" inspire the movement to reunite children with their families

"You are all Christian leaders. You do the uncomfortable thing because it is right...You can move those children to loving homes, we have done it, so it can be done!"

-Mohamed Nabieu speaking to the 1MILLIONHOME/Agape Family Reintegration Workshop
|
Last month, HCW’s Child Welfare Programs Liaison Mohamed Nabieu (Nabs) presented about his experience growing up in an institution to a special panel at the
1MILLIONHOME/Agape
Family Reintegration Workshop in Nairobi, Kenya. Nabs, Ruth Wacuka and Peter Mthui (both from Kenya) shared their experiences as "care leavers," children who age out of institutional care without being placed in a family.
The care leavers are on a mission to help child welfare advocates understand the impact of growing up in an institution, and encourage the reintegration of families.

Helping Children Worldwide is partnering with the 1MILLIONHOME Foundation to host a week-long Family Reintegration Workshop in Sierra Leone in 2020.
When 1MILLIONHOME learned that the CRC was the first Sierra Leonean orphanage to successfully complete this transition, they offered to support the workshop so that the CRC staff can train other orphanage directors and government officials to transition their programs to family-based care.

HCW annual golf Tournament a big success
|
Our generous sponsors, donors and golfers raised more than $74,000 to benefit the Child Rescue Centre and Mercy Hospital. It was a beautiful day for the nearly 100 golfers who competed for coveted animal trophies carved by Sierra Leonean artisans. The day concluded with a festive reception, silent auction, and barbecue dinner.

A prayer for education
Great Teacher, children need an education to have the full and abundant life You came to give them. Your Word demonstrates how You touch people’s hearts to spur them to action for their own benefit.
Bless people living in poverty by providing ways to learn to read and to apply this new skill to help lift their families out of poverty — for this generation and generations to come. Amen.
