ALL ABOARD
PUBLIC TRANSIT!
|
We spent a good portion of the spring working with Greater Portland Council of Governments (GPCOG) to develop the TransitTogether campaign, encouraging riders to return to—and new riders to discover—southern Maine’s surprisingly robust network of public bus, train and ferry services.
Our initial phase let the public know that transit has been serving many Mainers all along, and thanked the workers who have made that possible. Now, we’re actively promoting transit use with videos, radio spots and digital ads touting the benefits vs driving: less stress, lower cost, and reduced environmental impact.
|
The heart of the video and radio campaign is a catchy song we wrote and produced with guitarist/audio wizard Gary Richardson and singer-songwriter Travis Jackson. Check out the video and other info at TransitTogether.org…and get on board yourself to be kind to the earth and arrive with a smile!

A TASTY ASSIGNMENT: Marketing the Return of Maine's Hospitality Sector
|
HospitalityMaine’s membership was among the hardest-hit industries during the pandemic. When we first met with them this spring, the initial focus was on encouraging customers to return to Maine’s great restaurants and inns. But the proprietors told us the guests are already coming back; what they really need is staff.
|
In short order, we developed “The Great Maine Comeback” campaign to let former employees and new candidates know the industry is fully operational again, offering better opportunities than ever for exciting careers and good-paying summer jobs. Working with Rory Strunk of O’Maine Studios, we created videos featuring employees and owners at ten representative properties sharing their passion for the hospitality business. As Matt Havrilla, Event Coordinator at the Nonantum Resort in Kennebunk noted, “Where else do you get to create a lifetime experience for people over and over again!”

While you enjoy your favorite restaurant or lakeside getaway this summer, consider working in this iconic Maine industry yourself. It’s definitely back on track to continue an upward trend that COVID only temporarily slowed!

A RECIPE FOR RESTAURANT SUCCESS: Fresh food in the fresh air!
|
Earlier this year, when indoor dining was still forbidden, we worked with GPCOG to launch a campaign encouraging diners to check out the innovative ways restaurants were serving great meals outside, in igloos and tents, heated with propane towers or fire pits. We helped design and write MaineOutdoorDine.com, featuring a search function for eateries statewide, and videos with actual customers. All measures indicate that year-round outdoor dining is here to stay!

Dear Friends,
I hope that you and your family are enjoying our magnificent State of Maine in all her summer glory!
I am pleased to share that all of us at Burgess Advertising & Marketing have been very busy with some exciting and interesting new projects, along with our valued long-time clients. A few of these are outlined at left, and stay tuned for more news! We are very grateful to emerge from COVID with all of our staff healthy and able to work.
In May, I was deeply honored to be the commencement speaker for the 127th Thomas College graduation, at which I was awarded an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters by Laurie Lachance, the College President—a huge WOW! Thank you, Laurie and Thomas College.

And, of course, every July, the Tri for a Cure comes around. This year was the 14th Annual, and the 14th year that Burgess Advertising has been a proud sponsor! We did a hybrid version this time, with a virtual Tri and a live 5K on Sunday July 18th. It poured buckets, but the participants didn’t care! Thanks to the support of many of you, I was able to reach my fundraising goal of over $14,000, contributing to our overall goal of $1.1 million. We re almost there, and donations are still welcome here.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!
