Our Village is Here for Moms!

Thank you, Alex!

Dear Benjamin,

At our Pro-Life Summit, our Black Advocates for Life team hosted a Baby Supply Distribution to support local families in need by providing essential baby supplies. Tara Wicker, our State Director, said they hosted the event to show there is a village surrounding moms in need! At the drive, they supplied diapers, wipes, formula and more to over 150 families and were covered by two news stations (WAFB & WBLA)!

We started Baby-Supply drives during the COVID-19 crisis and our outreach continues in the Greater New Orleans region as well as in Baton Rouge. In total, we have provided 4,700 families with baby supplies. If you are interested in partnering with us to host one in your area, please contact us! This is an easy and practical way to help moms facing hardships before and after birth.

As we approach fall events, I encourage you to get involved in pro-life activities. Whether that's participating in a Life Chain, starting a Right to Life Chapter, or inviting a pro-life speaker to your church or school, there's so much we can be doing to advance the pro-life message.

We also have some bittersweet news to share with you. Our Director of Education, Alex Seghers, is stepping down from her position with us to pursue other opportunities. She has been an integral part of our team since 2015 when she first joined our staff as Youth Programs Director.

In her time with us, she's given hundreds of presentations, helped us pass the Love Life Amendment in 2020, and brought us through the overturn of Roe v. Wade. She's also been a leader for our youth education team and launched the Louisiana Pro-Life Summit held every year since 2022.

While her departure is difficult, she has sufficiently prepared our current Youth Programs Director, Ashley Gilliam, on our staff to fill her position and carry the torch into the next era of pro-life advocacy. You can get to know Ashley on our blog!

As we say goodbye to Alex, I want to thank her for her nine years of service to Louisiana Right to Life! We know that she made a huge impact on the youth, advanced grassroots efforts, provided us with the FindHelpLa.com website, and so much more. I hope you take a few minutes to watch the video we created encapsulating some of her time with us!

For a Pro-Life Louisiana,

Pro-Life Summit Highlights

Our Pro-Life Summit was an excellent day of inspiration, fellowship, and education! Nearly 200 people from all over the state came together to prepare our next steps for serving women and babies in Louisiana and beyond.

Our keynote speaker, Rebekah Hagan, was incredibly impactful! She astounded us with her illustration of going through a teen pregnancy and a second pregnancy where she began the abortion pill process, all while in a Christian home. Thankfully, she was able to reverse the process and save her baby.

She emphasized the importance of having an open conversation in the home about this issue, since the abortion pills are so widely available to young girls even in Louisiana. We are so excited that she will be speaking to several Louisiana high schools this Fall.

In July, our youth team hosted Pulse leadership Institute (PLI) at Tickfaw State Park. It was an enlightening week of learning and activism. Students spent a full day practicing pro-life apologetics, and were excited to see that the methods they employed worked when conversing with strangers on Louisiana State University's (LSU) campus.
