Summer Events Cancelled Through Labor Day

Day Camp Registration Tomorrow
Dear Neighbors,

Mayor Lightfoot and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) have announced all summer programming will be cancelled through Labor Day. This includes, Lollapalooza, Taste of Chicago, Jazz Fest, the Air & Water show, and Summer Dance. You can read more in the Chicago Sun-Times .

In lieu of these beloved favorites, the mayor announced a lineup of more than 150 new and reimagined summer events “including at-home dance parties, drive-in movies, virtual concerts and community meals for frontline workers” to make up for the Summer fun.

Some of the highlights include:
  • Taste of Chicago To-Go, July 8-12 - a food truck festival
  • Lollapalooza, Online Livestream, July 30 - August 2.
  • Millennium Park Summer Film Series, replaced by 6 Drive-in movies across the city, details to follow.
  • Summer Dance will now take place virtually, July 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

Please stay tuned for our Summer events newsletter with details on events happening in the neighborhood and throughput the city! Visit the Chicago DCASE webpage for more details on summer programming.
Help For Neighborhood Businesses
Improvements to Outdoor Dining & Sidewalk Cafes

Today, the Committee on Transportation passed a new ordinance that will allow temporary changes to the sidewalk cafe rules to make outdoor dining easier and less costly for restaurants under Phase Three. Changes include:

  • Reducing fees by 75%.
  • Extending Sidewalk Café Footprints beyond the front of the property.
  • Faster Permitting without needing to be introduced as an ordinance to City Council but with aldermanic approval

We are working hard right now with the Lincoln Park Chamber of Commerce and neighborhood restaurants to identify locations for extended sidewalk cafes and for possible street restrictions under the City's new Expanded Outdoor Dining Permit, to temporarily expand operations into the street or other private property (i.e. parking lots).

Applications and more can be found on the Chicago BACP webpage.
Apply for a PPP Loan by June 30

Last week, President Trump signed the  Paycheck Protection Flexibility Act, legislation that extends PPP deadlines and relaxes restrictions on how loans are used.  Click here  to read more from The Hill.

The legislation includes the following changes to the PPP program:

  • Loans can be used for a 24-week covered period (instead of 8 weeks)
  • Eligibility for loan forgiveness – if at least 60% of the loan is used on payroll (Previously 75%)
  • Loan forgiveness will still be possible if full-time employees (FTEs) won’t return to work
  • Five year loan-repayment terms for future PPP loans
  • Payroll tax deferment restored

The Illinois and National Restaurant Associations were among the first  to call for fixes to PPP  in order to provide more resources for restaurant owners..

June 30 is the final day for those who have not previously received a PPP loan to be issued one.  If you have not applied or been issued a PPP loan, you are encouraged to speak with your lender as soon as possible.
Helping Our Local Businesses
Please Volunteer to Join our Canvas

Several of our community groups have agreed to help us and our Chamber of Commerce to contact businesses to collect feedback. We are asking you to participate in a personal canvass of our neighborhood's businesses.  Special thanks to the Lincoln Central Association, Wrightwood Neighbors, Gold Coast and Old Town Triangle for surveying their areas about their interest in the City's new expanded outdoor dining programs.

We still need help in the Ranch Triangle, Park West, Sheffield Neighbors and Mid-North areas.

Here's how:

1) Contact Your community group.
To see what community area you are in, click  here  .

2) Email your community group president and say you want to help.

Here is the contact information for the presidents of our community groups  :

3) Tell your community group president where you will walk. Even a block or two is fine.

4) Drop in on the businesses, hand them  this flyer and collect whatever feedback they offer. Write down the name, phone number and email of your contact you spoke to, and email it to your community group president.

Thanks for volunteering - this is a critical way to quickly get the information we need.

#43 Protestors Wear Masks

We were reassured to see the vast majority of protesters fighting for social justice were also wearing masks. Thank you for being responsible while exercising your right to free speech. Please remember that Phase 3 requires wearing face coverings in all park district spaces, inside all establishments and anywhere you can't maintain a 6' social distance. If you need a mask, check out these local businesses making masks or contact us at yourvoice@ward43.org.
Have a safe and fun Father's Day,
