Happy September friends. Fall can't come soon enough!
A lot has been happening lately, so I will try to be brief. Please continue to be cautious when going out in public; watch the weather; and take care of yourselves and your families.
There are many ways to contribute to HURRICANE LAURA relief efforts.Rep. Freeman is collecting diapers and hygiene products at her 8600 Oak Street office. Several other orgs such as Junior League, Second Harvest, and United Way are collecting needed items in the New Orleans area. Meg Garvey is collecting on Freret Street Sunday morning.
The CENSUS ends September 30. It is so important for federal dollars and accurate voting representation to fill out your census form. This may also determine your future elected officials!
We still do not yet have a finalized plan for the November ELECTION.
A hearing will be held next week in federal court regarding the Secretary of State's bad plan. Sign up to be a poll worker here. I was on WWL this week, pointing out that it's the Secretary of State's job to protect the right to vote, not the governor's. Rep. Duplessisreminds us how important the post office is to our community - and to voting.
There are JOBS AVAILABLE starting at $15 an hour to begin construction on Charity Hospital. These jobs offer union representation and the potential to become a union member.
*****Some renters will be saved from EVICTION for the rest of the year due to a new federal provision. Please read carefully. If you have questions contact the LA Fair Housing Action Center.*****
Some personal news: my good friend Katie Baudouin is running for school board in the district I live in. She is the mom of two awesome little girls (pictured here!), and is seeing firsthand the efforts needed in the Nola public school system. And - a familiar face to many of you from last year's campaign, Monet Brignac, is running her campaign. (She is also a brand new college grad - congrats Monet!) I'm always happy and so proud to see my friends out there doing big things.
