All About Hematite...
The name hematite is derived from the word "haima" which means 'blood' in Greek. It is called "the stone that bleeds" because it leaves a red streak when scratched against objects. In ancient times it was believed that large deposits of hematite formed on battlegrounds where soldiers were injured and lost blood from their battles. Because of that, the Greeks associated hematite with Mars, the god of war. Interesting to note is that hematite was discovered on Mars and is responsible for the planet's distinctive red color.
North American Indians used hematite in war paint to render them invincible during battle.
Red chalk writings of hematite were found with the Pinnacle Point man, a 164,000 year old Stone Age man found in what is now South Africa. Hematite has also been found in graves from 80,000 years ago and ancient Egyptians often buried their dead with hematite. Ancient Egyptians often used hematite as an inscription stone for writings from the Book of the Dead.
Hematite helps memory, original thinking, and technical knowledge. Hematite reminds you that the only limitations that exist are those you place on yourself. Hematite balances the emotions and energy between the mind, body, and spirit.
