Monthly News & Updates

December 2025 | Issue 49

Welcome to the Every Brain Matters (EBM) monthly newsletter.  We are a nonprofit founded by Aubree Adams, who personally witnessed the devastating effects of marijuana commercialization with her own family and community. EBM is dedicated to empowering individuals with the knowledge and resources they need to navigate the challenges of marijuana normalization.

Through education, advocacy, and community building, we strive to ensure that no one faces this journey alone. Join us as we work together to make informed choices and promote understanding because every brain truly matters!

*Throughout this newsletter, the terms “marijuana” and “cannabis” are used interchangeably.

Spotlight

For years, intoxicating hemp-derived THC products — delta-8 gummies, THC seltzers, high-potency edibles, and a growing list of chemically altered cannabinoids — aggressively crept into America’s gas stations, corner stores, grocery aisles, and even family restaurants. Marketed as “legal” and packaged like snacks, these products built an addiction market that preyed on children, teens, and unsuspecting adults.

Families across the nation have been left to cope with the consequences that should never have happened.

The sprawling homeless encampments in cities like Denver, Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and San Francisco have become impossible to ignore. Americans now see scenes of widespread addiction, mental illness, and street disorder unfolding in some of the country’s wealthiest, most politically progressive states. And while homelessness has many causes — housing costs, untreated mental illness, addiction, and poverty — one pattern stands out with uncomfortable clarity.

The states hit hardest by homelessness are overwhelmingly the same states that aggressively commercialized retail marijuana.

To be clear, marijuana legalization did not create America’s housing shortage. But in states that legalized cannabis early and enthusiastically, we are now living with the unintended consequences — and vulnerable people are paying the highest price.

Advocacy In Action

Every Brain Matters is not just an organization; it is a national movement of families united to educate communities and advocate for change with a network of organizations.

Moment of Science

Through our Dispensing Truth project, Every Brain Matters equips communities with the latest science-based tools to challenge marijuana misinformation using appealing graphics and clear facts. The following graphics are available for free and linked to the resources.

The Voices of Marijuana's Harms

Every Brain Matters is lifting up the voices of victims and families—voices that have been dismissed for too long. Their lived experiences reveal the human cost that statistics alone cannot capture. By sharing these stories and exposing the real harms of today’s marijuana, we aim to equip leaders, inform communities, and empower families with the knowledge they need to protect the people they love.

Please listen to Nina Manolson's story, The Power Of Family As A Grounding And Healing Force During Unstable Times and learn how her family navigated her son's cannabis-induced psychosis.

Hope For Recovery

We understand that families often feel isolated in a world where marijuana use is becoming increasingly normalized. Supporting a loved one who is affected by marijuana can be overwhelming. To assist you, we have created recovery resources for families that will help you navigate this new era of widespread marijuana use. We aim to help you discover healing pathways, gain valuable recovery tools, and build healthier relationships. We invite you to attend our family support meetings and utilize the resources available to you. All the meetings we offer are located under the meeting tab on our website.

On December 10, we will feature Mary M., who is actively engaged in a strong recovery program despite the challenges that cannabis has posed for her family.

Moment of Silence

The Every Brain Matters Memorial is a place of honor, healing, and remembrance. We celebrate the lives of those we’ve lost and stand with the families and friends who carry their love forward. By sharing these stories, we break isolation, reduce stigma, and help others find hope and support.

Our memorial publicly remembers the life-changing effects of marijuana and serves as a reminder of why we continue this critical fight.

If you’d like to add your loved one to the Memorial, we welcome their story—in your words. Please share a photo, a favorite memory, and anything that captures who they are. Please reach out to us to submit your tribute at this link, and we’ll be honored to include it. Your voice is essential and may inspire change in others. Together, we can advocate for a better future.
