Laughter is the best medicine

Why is laughter the best medicine?

Laughter decreases stress hormones and increases immune cells and infection-fighting antibodies, thus improving your resistance to disease. Laughter triggers the release of endorphins, the body's natural feel-good chemicals. Endorphins promote an overall sense of well-being and can even temporarily relieve pain.

Registration for B&O Bicycle Tour Now Open

June 1 Bike Ride to Begin at Cardinal Park in Brownsburg

The B&O Trail Association will host its annual B&O Bicycle Tour on June 1 with participants beginning and ending their rides at Cardinal Elementary School in Brownsburg. This new venue allows participants in the group’s largest annual fundraiser immediate access to the B&O Trail, meaning that a larger percentage of the ride can take place on the actual trail. “I am very enthused about our new location,” says Jeff Smallwood, president of the B&O Trail Association. “We’ll showcase portions of the B&O Trail, passing by the new Virgil Park, with longer routes venturing into the scenic countryside west of Brownsburg. Everyone can enjoy the live music and refreshments.”

Registration for the event, whose title sponsor is Hendricks Regional Health, is now open on the BOTA website, botrail.org.

Since the inaugural event in 1993, the B&O Bicycle Tour has grown to attract more than 800 participants who choose from 11-, 17-, 25-, 45- and 62-mile loops. All riders are encouraged to stay for lunch, which will be catered by Smokin' J's Barbecue.

Sign-in begins at 7:30 a.m. All riders may depart once they have completed check-in, prepped their bikes and donned a helmet. This is a rain or shine event.

About the B&O Trail Association: With a mission of Blazing Trails, Connecting Communities, the B&O Trail Association (BOTA) is building a recreational trail along the abandoned B&O Railroad corridor. The non-profit, all-volunteer organization was formed in 1993 and has already completed 8.25 miles of paved trail. BOTA partners with the Speedway Trails Association (STA), which is constructing along the B&O corridor in Marion County from Michigan Street to western Marion County. The two groups will

meet approximately halfway between I-465 and Girls School Road. To learn more, visit botrail.org.

Child Care Answers (CCA) is hosting a resource fair for child care professionals from across central Indiana at MADE at Plainfield on March 2. This event is an opportunity to connect child care professionals to the people, businesses, and tools needed to support child care businesses. The new Hendricks County Child Care Task Force will also be conducting a listening session to understand the needs of child care providers in Hendricks County. Please let any friends and neighbors in the child care field know that they are welcome to attend!

In May, CCA will also be conducting its annual provider appreciation event. This is a time for the community to show their appreciation to those that work in child care programs including teachers, assistants, administrators, directors, and any other staff that works to support young children and their families. Each attendee will fill a bucket full of self-care items, enjoy light snacks, connect with one another, and enter to win door prizes.

If you are interested in supporting the provider resource fair and/or the provider appreciation event through a monetary donation, merchandise, or service, CCA can provide you with more information, including anything needed for documentation purposes. Email Michelle Terry at michellet@childcareanswers.org to get connected!

I would like to invite anyone to our grief support ministry, sponsored by The Church by the Side of the Road. This is a positive, uplifting, caring group in which you can learn how to deal with the emotions and challenges that come when a loved one dies. Whether your loss is recent, or years in the past, this is a place of healing here for you! Please feel free to print or forward the information below to others who

are grieving the death of a family member or friend. They too are welcome and will benefit by joining us.

The Church by the Side of the Road GRIEFSHARE GROUP BEGINS Thursday, March 21 st . We will meet at

6pm through May 30 th for approximately 90 minutes. Please come, even if you know you can't commit to all 11 weeks. Anyone who has experienced the death of a family member or friend is invited to attend our new GriefShare series. We will be using session 4 of GriefShare. The sessions are held each week on Thursday at 6pm in the fellowship hall. GriefShare is a non-denominational, biblical support group, that focuses on helping people who are

dealing with a loved one’s death. Each DVD session features nationally respected grief experts and real-

life stories, followed by a small group discussion about the topics presented (with workbook support).

The workbook also provides a brief 5-day Bible study. At each GriefShare session you will find encouragement and help in grieving the death of your loved

one. No matter the cause of your loved one’s death, this is an opportunity to be around people who understand what you are feeling. You will learn how to recognize the symptoms of being stuck in grief and how to cope with the normal emotions that come when grieving a death. You will learn valuable

information on facing life situations, and you’ll gain renewed hope for the future. These sessions are

open to any adult regardless of whether your experience is recent or in the distant past. The group is led by individuals who have personally experienced grief due to a loved one’s death. Each leader is trained in facilitating a GriefShare support group.

The $20 registration fee includes materials. (Please don’t allow this fee to keep you from attending; we have scholarships available.) Information about the weekly topics can be found on the GriefShare website at www.griefshare.org. You can go directly to the church page on their website at: The Church by the Side of the Road group - GriefShare. While you are on the website, we encourage you to sign up

for the free daily email encouragements. You will find them informative and comforting. For additional information and to register, contact Pastor Rick at pastorrick@thechurchbythesideoftheroad.org or

Lion's Club President Tom Iles with a table full of Valentine Cards

Residents of the Sugar Grove Senior Living Facility, The Oaks at Plainfield, Plainfield Health Care Center, Cumberland Trace, and Glass Water Creek recently received a little love in the form of a Valentine’s Day card compliments of the Plainfield Lions Club and Plainfield community elementary schools. Club President Tom Iles said, “We are very appreciative of our partnership with the Plainfield Community School System. We want to thank all five elementary schools, Central, Van Buren, Clarks Creek, Brentwood and Guilford, in handcrafting Valentine cards for us to give to those residing in the surrounding assisted living and nursing homes.” Over 1,200 cards were collected with personal messages of care and love.

McKenzie Wilson, Director of Marketing and Sales at Glasswater Creek expressed her gratitude and said, “We received dozens of wonderful Valentine’s cards for the second year in a row. This may seem like a simple gesture to some, but to many of our residents, this is something they remember for the entire year.”

The Plainfield Lions Club has been providing Valentine and Christmas cards to the surrounding nursing homes and assisted living facilities for over a decade.
