I raised my children in Duluth. All of our days were accompanied by the power of Lake Superior. The greatest of lakes was a constant source of wonder and recreation. My children have the song of the waves woven into their souls; I do too. Never did I become complacent about the miraculous power of Lake Superior.
I now live in a place woven by the movement of the Mississippi. The artery of our nation supports so much life and it gives and gives and gives. The oak trees that line "my" portion of the river are grounded in the life-blood of sacred water.
I am moved by the power and fragility of place. As hurricanes and floods ravage habitations a sense of grief ravages my heart. How has it come to this? What am I to do?
Joining with others in lament and commitment to healing is life-blood for me. I cannot imagine being alive on this earth without the clear sense that I am connected to all that is and all of creation is sacred kin.
Join me in prayer.
Pray for the planet and for our growing sense of how it is we are woven into life together. Pray for those affected by hurricanes, pray for the healing of our hearts as rancor and disinformation bedevil our wellbeing. Pray for the power of God's holy healing to hold us as the winds of destruction wail.
And, join in a LYFE group and worship as we open ourselves to the ecological realities and questions of our days. It's not too late to join a group (join here) and worship is offered every Sunday at ten and via electronic media after that time.
We are held in the midst of chaos. We are a people united by conviction and hope.
