County's elected officials sworn in

for new terms at ceremony

One by one, 16 individuals raised their right hand, took their oath of office and were sworn in to serve terms that will begin Jan. 1.


The Henrico County 2024 Investiture installed members of the Board of Supervisors and School Board as well as individuals to serve as Clerk of the Circuit Court, Commonwealth's Attorney, Sheriff and Director of the Henricopolis Soil & Water Conservation District.


Each “will dedicate their time, their energy and their passion to this county and its people,” County Manager John Vithoulkas said. “They are placing themselves on the public stage, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for that service.” More

Scholarship fund established to honor

Thornton, O'Bannon

Supervisors Frank J. Thornton and Patricia S. O'Bannon will continue to support student achievement and success even after their 28 years of board service ends Dec. 31.


Henrico County, with the nonprofit Henrico Education Foundation and a host of donors, recently established a scholarship fund to honor the trailblazing supervisors.


The privately supported fund is expected to provide annual scholarships of $5,000 to two Henrico County Public Schools seniors who embody the values that Thornton and O'Bannon have exhibited throughout their service. Details | Watch O'Bannon, Thornton farewells

Henrico employees boost Christmas Mother program


Through a variety of departmental fundraising events and independent initiatives, county staff members generated and donated a record amount — more than $17,000 — to the 2023 Henrico Christmas Mother program.


In addition to the funds, employee generosity provided hundreds of books, blankets, bicycles and more to the annual charitable effort that served 1,260 families, with some 2,800 children, this year. County officials join opening celebration of Performance Pickleball RVA opens

Performance Pickleball RVA held its grand opening Dec. 15 at Regency. It's the largest indoor pickleball facility in Virginia, with 12 indoor courts and plans for six additional outdoor courts.

Henrico’s Environmental Action Resource Team (H.E.A.R.T.) recently assembled more than 35 volunteers to improve the buffer surrounding Lake Hening at the Western Government Center. Close to 180 native trees and shrubs were planted to enhance the natural boundary of the lake — an effort that will have an immediate, positive impact on water quality in the area. This partnership with the Virginia Department of Forestry is the first of many projects that H.E.A.R.T. plans to protect the natural resources of Henrico County. Watch
