Henrico’s triple AAA bond ratings reaffirmed

Henrico County’s triple AAA bond ratings – the highest possible endorsement of its creditworthiness – have been reaffirmed ahead of a sale of bonds to improve schools and other public facilities.

S&P Global Ratings, Moody’s Investors Service and Fitch Ratings last week confirmed their previous AAA ratings for Henrico after reviewing its finances and visiting the county in February. Henrico is positioned to earn the lowest available interest rate when it issues $121.4 million in general-obligation bonds to finance a package of capital improvement projects. The sale is expected in mid-March. More

Crisis Receiving Center for youth to open in March

For the first time, central Virginia has a facility designed to provide emergency mental health services for young people.

Officials recently cut the ribbon on the Crisis Receiving Center (CRC) on the Brook Road campus of St. Joseph's Villa in Henrico County. "The Crisis Receiving Center holds tremendous promise for young people and their families in Henrico and across the region,” said Fairfield District Supervisor Roscoe D. Cooper III.

The CRC is intended to serve as an alternative to a hospital emergency room for youth experiencing a mental health crisis.

Expected to begin operating in March, the facility will specialize in serving individuals ages 7 to 17. Info | Watch

FEMA flood map changes to impact up to

7,000 Henrico addresses

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recently completed reexamining Henrico County’s flood hazard maps. The maps show the areas at high, moderate and low risk of flooding, including the anticipated flood depths during a major flood event.

The Department of Public Works is sending letters to all affected addresses in early March with information on how that parcel has been impacted.

The new maps are already in effect for regulatory purposes. On

April 25, they will go into effect to determine where flood insurance is required. Flood map updates | More

Henrico bans firearms in county buildings

Henrico County now prohibits the possession of firearms and ammunition in its government buildings, including government centers, libraries and recreation centers.

The Board of Supervisors approved an ordinance enacting the firearms ban on Feb. 27. It applies to all members of the public, except for military personnel and sworn law enforcement officers acting in official capacities and other exempted individuals.

The measure is designed to promote public safety and align with similar measures in place for buildings of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States as well as buildings of Henrico County Public Schools and Henrico’s courts. Details
