Interim City Manager

🏛️ At the March 3 City Council meeting, the City of Hercules unanimously appointed Patrick Tang as interim city manager.
Patrick served as Hercules’ city attorney from 2011 through 2024. His background with Hercules and deep connection to the community will help ensure a smooth transition while the City continues serving its residents.
Patrick will officially begin in this role on March 24, while the City conducts the recruitment and onboarding process for a permanent city manager.

Summer fun is coming soon to Hercules! Fill the long days with community events and activities featured in our 2026 Summer Activity Guide!
Our Summer 2026 Activity Guide is now live on the city’s website! All summer activities are active, and ready for registration. There are a few spring events coming up in March, as well as summer events to look forward to. We will also be holding our extremely popular Dynamite Summer camps, Swim lessons, and a plethora of other camps and activities for every age. Be sure to register early to reserve your spot in the camps/lessons you want before programs fill up.

Welcome to the City of Hercules Dyno Power Summer Camps. There will be 9 weeks of fun to choose from. Camp is open to those ages 3 years through 6th grade! Each week will have a different theme, and will include activities like arts & crafts, STEM, free-play, group games and more. There will be on-site entertainment and outdoor fun. Our summer camp philosophy is to provide a safe, fun, and exciting environment for each camper. For the all-day camps, you will need to send a healthy AM snack/cold lunch in a lunch daily, water bottle and we will provide the PM snack.
Little Dynos camp is our preschool summer program, which is a half day program for 3Y’s to kindergarten. Check out the other three full day camp options for TK – 6th grade.
Registration for current families is March 4-24, 2026 and registration for public families starts on March 25, 2026. The summer calendars and daily schedules will be on the summer camp website at www.herculesrec.com by March 1st. All enrollment groups are subject to change based on the age of the child. Registration will take place at the Community center Monday-Thursday 8:30a-5:00p; 510-799-8291.

At the Jan. 27 meeting, Hercules City Council expanded its economic development efforts by continuing to invest in the Yiftee Gift Card program and the Tiered Business Attraction Grant program. These funding approvals reflect the City’s ongoing dedication to the financial success and future of Hercules.
At the meeting, the Hercules City Council allocated $25,000 to the “Shop Hercules” Yiftee Gift Card program, with a 25% bonus on gift card purchases to allow residents to receive additional money when shopping locally. The City Council also increased ... read more

Jeff Brown
Retirement of Public Works Superintendent

🏛️ At its Feb. 24 City Council meeting, the City of Hercules proudly recognized the retirement of Public Works Superintendent Jeff Brown after more than 36 years of dedicated service to the Hercules community.
Jeff began his career with the City in 1989 as a Maintenance Worker I, and went on to serve in other roles, including Public Works Inspector, Public Works Utility Inspector and ultimately Public Works Superintendent.
👏 For over three decades, Jeff provided steady leadership, technical expertise and mentorship while helping maintain and improve the City’s infrastructure.
Throughout his career, Jeff stepped up during key moments when serving as Acting and Interim Public Works Director during times of transition and successfully managed major projects such as the City’s ENGIE Solar Project.
The City of Hercules extends its sincere appreciation for Jeff’s lasting contributions and wishes him a fulfilling retirement. 💙

"Today we had the pleasure of honoring a great friend to the Hercules Library, Jeff Brown, who has served the City of Hercules with dedication and distinction for over twenty years as Public Works Superintendent, and who has announced his retirement this year.
Jeff has provided steadfast and invaluable support to the library since before it's creation in 2006, applying his deep knowledge of the building to address varied and sundried issues, always responding with care, expertise, reliability, and a healthy dose of good humor.
We are extending our sincere gratitude and appreciation to Jeff Brown for his years of exemplary public service, and wish him the most happiness, good health, and fulfillment in his well-earned retirement. His name is now proudly showcased on the windows of the Sky Garden here at Hercules Library. "

The March 7, 2026 Veterans Memorial Installation and Dedication Event was very well attended. The Veteran’s Memorial is a lasting tribute honoring the service and sacrifice of the men and women who have served our nation. The Hercules Veterans Memorial was made possible by the generosity from Hercules residents, businesses, Phillips 66, City of Hercules, and HRC Rotary.

Lunar New Year

Sunday, March 1, featured the 2nd annual Hercules Lunar New Year Parade and Festival. The parade started at Hercules High and ended at the Community Swim Center where guests were treated to lots of entertainment & activities including Lucky Envelopes for kids, dancing, bands, music, classic cars, and more.

Career Fair

The 2026 Career Fair was held at the Hercules Community Swim Center on Wednesday, February 18, from 10a-1p. Overall the event was a huge success with more than 40 employers and agencies participating, and 246 job seekers working their way through the event. That is up from 230 last year.

On Thursday, February 12, the Hercules Police Department hosted its 4th Annual Pancake Breakfast at the Hercules Senior Center. This event is free for seniors. The event sold out in advance (100+) seniors who attended this special pre-valentine’s day special, enjoyed a delicious meal of pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, and more, served by the Hercules Police Department. The event was filled with great food, laughter, and plenty of photo opportunities, making it a memorable morning for all!

Hercules Library celebrated Black History Month with Art of the African Diaspora, with gorgeous works of art exhibited throughout the library. In partnership with Richmond Art Center, AAOAD supports artists of African descent in the Bay Area through representation, professional development, and building creative community.

Seniors 55+ Food Program will distribute every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Seniors 55+ who are Hercules residents, with proof of residency, may attend the Senior Food bank at the Senior Center.

The Food Bank comes out to the Hercules Senior Center on the first and third Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. of each month, and distributes fresh fruits, vegetables, and canned goods. Please remember to bring your own bags.
This program is available to those who meet the income guidelines.
