CEO Update
Dear YMCA Friends,

At the Y, we believe in a holistic approach to development that promotes three areas of good health—spirit, mind and body. Without one, the others are compromised. We recognize how far-reaching impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been on mental health in the communities we serve.

Since 2020, the need for mental, behavioral and substance use counseling has grown. These are the alarming statistics:

  • 1 in 5 adults and 1 in 3 young adults experienced mental illness.
  • 1 in 15 people experienced a substance use disorder and mental illness.
  • 11 years is the average delay between symptom onset and treatment.
  • 12+ million people had serious thoughts of suicide.

This truly motivates our YMCA Counseling & Social Services team to serve more individuals in need and nurture partnerships that extend our collective impact. Learn about Y programs, and consider financial support to help us help those who need us most.

YMCA RUNNING CLUB
KICKS OFF MAY 6!
We're welcoming new and returning runners to train for a 5K and condition your running gradually. Join us at the Red Bank Family YMCA weekly on Fridays at 7am starting May 6—June 18.

SPRING EVENTS
CELEBRATING SENIORS! NATIONAL SENIOR HEALTH & FITNESS DAY® MAY 25
We're welcoming Seniors age 55 and older for a day of good health on Wednesday, May 25, 9am-3pm with Senior Citizens Activities Network - SCAN and Ocean County YMCA!

Join us in-person at YMCA locations in Old Bridge, Red Bank, Freehold and Toms River, and on ZOOM for free fitness and mind health fun for active older adults.

All Veterans are invited to the Red Bank Family YMCA on Thurs., May 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. hosted by the VFW for resources, information and community partners that support the unique needs of our Veterans. Proof of Veteran status and photo ID will be asked for entrance.

Services include benefits, claims, housing, employment, DD 214's and more.
The Red Bank Classic 5K and Kids Dash is back! We can't wait to bring community together to benefit much-needed youth programs of the Y! Join us with the Red Bank RiverCenter and Red Bank Business Alliance on Sat. June 18 as a runner, sponsor, and for family fun after the run.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
READY, SET, SUMMER CAMP!
At Y day camp, kids make new friends and have tons of fun as they explore new adventures each day. They come away with new skills, confidence and friendships that broaden their perspectives and strengthen their character.

JOIN THE GREATER MONMOUTH Y SWIM TEAM!
TRYOUTS MAY 21 & 22
Jump in for competitive swim with our nationally-ranked Greater Monmouth Y Swim Team (GMNY) . Try outs for 12U swimming will be held:

> Sat., May 21, 2:30 p.m. at Red Bank Family YMCA
> Sun., May 22, 2:30 p.m. at Freehold Family YMCA

Practices are held in Red Bank, Wall, Freehold and Old Bridge. Download pre-registration forms and membership waivers and bring with you to try outs. Swimmers ages 13 and over should e-mail times to [email protected].
GIVING BACK
Help our Y ensure that all children are prepared for fun in the sun this summer with new swim suits. Drop off youth size 5-12 at Togetherhood bins in YMCA lobbies by June 15.
Join our Y Togetherhood team on May 7 and 21 for a day of spruce up to get summer camp ready for kids and families ~ a great service project for teens to dig in and give back!
