Members and Friends,

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 17. The federal holiday became a national day of service when Congress passed the King Holiday and Service Act in 1994. Known as "a day on, not a day off", the MLK Day of Service is a way for us to honor Dr. King's life and legacy through volunteering and community outreach. Below are local events and volunteer opportunities to commemorate MLK Jr. Day.

The Newark Museum of Art is presenting Virtual Panel: Monumental Voices on Sunday, January 16 at 2:00 pm. The free event will include conversation around art, equity, and activism as well as Dr. King's legacy through art. Panelists include Jacari Harris, Executive Director at George Floyd Memorial Foundation, Nina Cooke John, Architect and Designer of the Harriet Tubman Monument in Newark, and Linda Street of Pink Dragon Artist Syndicate, LLC. The panel will be moderated by Artist and Historian Noelle Lorraine Williams. Click here to register.

The YMCA of Newark is hosting its 51st Annual MLK Jr. Memorial Breakfast on Monday, January 17 at 8:00 am. The virtual presentation includes an appearance from this year's keynote speaker, Dr. Frank Leon Roberts. Click here to register or donate.

Camp Registration Launches Feb 6
Due to the current surge in COVID cases, we have decided to cancel our Camp Fair and do a completely digital Camp Registration Launch on February 6. We know you have questions. We are updating our website and preparing a camp video, digital guide, and FAQ. If parents have any questions, a form will be available to submit those questions and a camp staff person will respond. Look for an email the week of January 31 that will provide more information.

We are looking forward to seeing you and your children again this summer!
The YMCA of Montclair welcomes all. We are a nonprofit that strengthens community with a focus on youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Y. For A Better Us.
