DAY 1

Your Veg to Vegan Challenge starts today!

Welcome to all vegetarians who have taken the first step towards their next step! Congratulations on your dedication to living in alignment with your values and for caring for your own health and the health of the planet.

Every day in November, your Veg to Vegan Challenge briefing will include:

  • One bite-sized bit of information or inspiration to help you succeed

  • A link to a video or longer reading to inspire or inform you

  • A shout-out to a vegan organization or person who we think can inspire and inform you.

  • A link to a recipe we think you'll enjoy

Each week, you'll be invited to join a Virtual Vegan Meet-Up on Zoom, each of which will feature an expert special guest. All month long, you're welcome to start, join, or listen in on discussions in the Veg2Vegan forum on Facebook. We hope you will make use of those opportunities for social connection!

Your bite-sized tip for today is that people are more likely to stick with a choice they have made for one reason if they discover more reasons supporting that decision. So, whether you are most motivated to try vegan by compassion for animals, concern for your health, or the environmental harms caused by dairy and egg production, learning about the other reasons will help you!

Shout-Out

Today's shout-out to a vegan organization goes out to Mothers Against Dairy, which is a project in which a truly diverse group of human mothers express empathy for and solidarity with cows and other animals exploited for their milk. Visit their website if you're ever having trouble sticking to your pledge to avoid milk and cheese. Send friends and relatives to the site, especially if they are mothers themselves. Share stories from the site on your own social media.

Recipe of the Day

Even if you don't usually plan your meals, it might be useful to do so during the first week of the challenge. Check out this free 7-Day Meal Planner from our friends at the Afro-Vegan Society!

While you're on their website, check out their recipe for Hearty Vegetable Lasagna. The dairy-free ricotta cheese is made with sunflower seeds and tofu and is incredibly creamy!

Further Inspiration

To confirm your intention to forgo eggs this month, watch this video of a mother hen and her chicks at VINE Sanctuary. Listen to the narration that comes in at the end to learn things you might not already know about eggs!
