Great Time at "Cornell Creates Community" Event

November 4th,

CCE-Suffolk had a great night of community and art at the Port Jefferson Village Center. We had auctions, local food, drinks and CCE-Suffolk art.

This event was a great way to connect with the community for the first time in person since the pandemic began. Proceeds raised from the event will go to funding all of CCE-Suffolk programs and initiatives.

Thank you to all you attended, contributed, and volunteered.

The art work featured at our event will be on display and for sale for the rest of the month. These unique pieces of art are great holiday gifts for loved ones.

Spotted Lanternfly
Our social media post about the Spotted Lanternfly drew a lot of interest from individuals and the press.

The Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive pest that has the potential of negatively impacting the wine industry and our environment. This is insect can damage vineyards and cause overuse of insecticide.

Thank you to Dan Gilrein for alerting all of us to this pest. Dan and the entire Agricultural team continue to look out for the community with its educational materials, services and programming.

If you see a Spotted Lanternfly please contact the CCE-Suffolk Horticulture Diagnostic Lab.

We had the opportunity to introduce her to our babies on the farm and take some amazing fall photos in our most favorite spaces!

The farm is open year-round so you too can come by and see the llamas, cows, chickens, butterflies, piglets and much more.

What is the best holiday gift I can buy for my child (or grandchild, or spouse, or partner, or friend)?

Something you buy will most likely be appreciated, but it may not be the “best” thing you can give. Spending time with family and friends are actually the most valuable gifts you can give.

During time together, engage in mutually enjoyable activities and pay undivided attention through listening, then responding and sharing.

No matter how young or old the recipient, special times together make more of an impact than an inanimate gift. Consciously creating a harmonious and caring atmosphere at home and by making time for family fun will increase feelings of happiness and well-being for all. With these practices, memories will made that will last a lifetime.

As we age, these precious times with family and friends enrich our lives and help us to maintain good health. Please consider this when you start your holiday shopping.

Nothing compares to simply engaging in fun times together, and showing your love and interest to those special people in your life. It is the best gift of all.
A Local F.I.S.H Recipe
The Choose Local F.I.S.H Initiative's mission is to is to make local fish known and accessible for all. Every month we will feature a delicious staff approved recipe using fresh local catch.

Blue Fish Burger

INGREDIENTS
1.5 lbs. bluefish filet
1 lemon, to clean fish
1 teaspoon salt, to clean fish
1 tablespoon fresh oregano, minced (or 1/2 T dried)
1 tablespoon fresh thyme, picked (or 1/2 T dried)
2 tablespoons red onion, small dice
1 clove garlic, minced
1/2 cup cornmeal or breadcrumbs
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon mayonnaise

DIRECTIONS
To clean fish, douse fillets with lemon and salt, then rinse under cold water. Place on a clean, dry side towel or layered paper towel.

To prep fish, cut flesh from remaining skin making sure to remove the dark blue/red flesh (it can carry a very strong flavor). Pick through the bones then cut the flesh into large dice-sized chunks and place in large bowl.

Add fresh herbs (or dried), onion, garlic, bread crumbs (or cornmeal), mayonnaise, egg and mix well.

Form into 4 burger patties and place on plate for storage in fridge for 30 minutes; this will ensure that burgers are firm.

Cook on grill as you would any burger.
