Our new Call Before You Haul hotline makes it easy to check if facilities are open, closed for a holiday, or affected by weather or other events — before you hit the road.

Public Works recognized for Route 360 project

We’re proud to share that Hanover County Public Works has won the 2026 American Public Works Association (APWA) Mid-Atlantic Chapter Project of the Year Award for the Route 360 Widening Project!

 

This much-needed improvement to the Route 360 corridor has made a real difference for our community. Congratulations to Director Randy Hardman, Traffic Engineer Joe Vidunas and the entire Public Works team for their hard work and dedication.

Hanover burn ban in effect through April 30

Hanover County's burn ban is in effect through April 30.


This ordinance restricts open burning to the hours of 4 p.m. to midnight.

Dominion Energy to periodically close

Fall Line Trail

Dominion Energy is implementing a project along the recently completed northern section of the Fall Line Trail in Hanover County that will require periodic access pauses between February and May.

CVTA collecting feedback on transportation projects funding scenario

The Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA) is seeking public input on its proposed FY2027–2032 transportation project funding plan.

 

Written comments may be submitted online here or by email to information@cvtava.org. The public comment period runs through Thursday, Feb. 26, at 3 p.m. 

 

You can also share your feedback in person or online during the public hearing on Friday, Feb. 27. View the proposed project list here

Applications open for elderly or disabled real estate tax relief

Hanover County is accepting applications for its real estate tax relief program for elderly or permanently disabled residents.

The application period ends March 2.

Share your feedback on the Route 1 Gateway Small Area Plan

Hanover County is working with the community to create a long-term vision for U.S. Route 1 between the Chickahominy River (Henrico County Line) and the Town of Ashland. 


The presentation and informational boards from the Feb. 12 workshop are now available online for review at engage.hanovercounty.gov/Route1Plan.


These materials include a summary of community feedback, overall study area strategies, a design guidelines overview and additional project information. We invite you to review the information and share your feedback by 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.

Thomas M. Woody retiring after a nearly 40-year career with Hanover County

Thomas M. Woody of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office is retiring after nearly 40 years of service to Hanover County. 

 

Throughout his career, Woody served in a variety of roles, including patrol deputy, K-9 officer, and Chief of Staff, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to public safety and service. His leadership, experience and dedication have made a lasting impact on the Sheriff’s Office and the residents he served. 

 

Board of Supervisors Chair Sean M. Davis presented him with a proclamation at last week's meeting. 

Assessor Richard Paul retiring after more than 30 years of dedicated service

After more than 30 years of dedicated service to Hanover County, Richard Paul is closing an incredible chapter of public service.


Appointed Director of Real Estate Assessments in 2014, Paul played a key role in modernizing the County’s assessment process by leading the transition to the Computer-Assisted Mass Appraisal (CAMA) system, improving efficiency and accuracy. We are grateful for all he has done to serve Hanover County.

Beaverdam Town Hall happening March 2

Beaverdam District Supervisor Jeff S. Stoneman is hosting a Town Hall on Monday, March 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room, 7516 County Complex Road.
