Proposed budget continues strategic investments; maintains tax rate

Hanover County Administrator John A. Budesky presented the proposed Fiscal Year 2027 budget to the Board of Supervisors last week.

 

The $427 million General Fund budget reflects a 3.3% increase over the current year and continues the County’s focus on schools, public safety, infrastructure and workforce competitiveness. The real estate tax rate remains at 81 cents per $100 assessed value, the lowest in the Richmond region.

The Board is set to vote on the budget during its meeting on April 8 at 2 p.m.

Applications open for elderly or disabled real estate tax relief

Hanover County is accepting applications for its real estate tax relief program for elderly or permanently disabled residents.

The application period ends March 2.

Share your feedback on the Route 1 Gateway Small Area Plan

Hanover County is working with the community to create a long-term vision for U.S. Route 1 between the Chickahominy River (Henrico County Line) and the Town of Ashland. 


The presentation and informational boards from the Feb. 12 workshop are now available online for review at engage.hanovercounty.gov/Route1Plan.


These materials include a summary of community feedback, overall study area strategies, a design guidelines overview and additional project information. We invite you to review the information and share your feedback by 5 p.m. on Sunday, March 1.

Supervisor Stoneman to host two Town Halls

Beaverdam District Supervisor Jeff S. Stoneman is hosting a Town Hall on Monday, March 2, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room, 7516 County Complex Road.


There will be another Town Hall on Monday, March 16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Doswell Community Center, 16433 Washington Highway.

Residents share stories about growing up in Hanover and Ashland at upcoming event

Untold Stories is back for its eleventh year as a panel of residents from Hanover County and the Town of Ashland gather to share stories about growing up during the ‘40s, ‘50s and ‘60s. 


Topics include race, community, segregation and history in our community. This year’s theme is, “Viet Nam War Era Military Veterans,” and features panelists Brenda Bryant, John Gordon, Ron Hopkins, Aubrey Hopson Jr. and Anne Payne.


Untold Stories takes place in the Patrick Henry High School auditorium on Sunday, March 1, at 4 p.m.
