Board holds first meeting of 2024

The Hanover County Board of Supervisors held its first meeting of the year last week.

South Anna representative Susan P. Dibble was elected Chair for 2024 and Cold Harbor representative F. Michael Herzberg IV was elected Vice Chair.

The meeting was also the annual reorganization of the Board. Members were appointed to committees and they adopted the meeting schedule for this year.

Chickahominy Health District hosts life-saving training this week at Hanover libraries

Chickahominy Health District is hosting several "Rapid REVIVE!" walk-in trainings at Hanover libraries this week:

12:30-3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 16 at Mechanicsville Branch Library
10 a.m.-noon on Thursday, Jan. 18 at Atlee Branch Library

Training takes only 10-15 minutes and teaches life-saving opioid overdose knowledge. Walk out with a free naloxone to help save a life. No appointment needed.

Hanover Master Gardeners' annual Home Gardening Series event happening Saturday

The second session of Hanover Master Gardeners' annual Home Gardening Series is this Saturday, Jan. 20 with "Microbial Activity in Soils & Virginia Snakes" at Atlee Library.

All sessions will be held on Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. They are free and open to the public.

Nominations open for Hanover's "Spirit of Volunteerism" awards

Hanover County’s “Spirit of Volunteerism” program honors outstanding individuals who give back to our community.

Nominations are now open to recognize volunteers in the following categories:

Spirit of One
Spirit of Youth
Spirit of Youth-Team
Spirit of Dedication
Spirit of Family
Spirit of Team
Spirit of Inspiration
Commitment to Community

All nominees will be recognized at an awards celebration on Monday, April 15 from 7-9 p.m. at Atlee High School. The event is free and open to the public.

Nominations will be accepted through Monday, Feb. 12. More information is available here.
