Sheriff's Office investigator receives national recognition for dedicated servicce

Investigator Jamie Baynes of the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office was honored last week by the Scotchtown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution with the Ellen Hardin Walworth Founders Medal for Patriotism, one of the organization’s most prestigious recognitions.

Investigator Baynes received the award for his dedication to identifying unclaimed decedents who were military veterans and ensuring they received the full military burial honors they earned through their service. Through extensive research and coordination with Sandra Moore of the Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Amelia and Andrew Bennett Morehead of Bennett’s Funeral Home, the trio helped confirm veterans’ service and arrange for them to be laid to rest with dignity.

We appreciate Investigator Baynes for his commitment to honoring those who served our country and ensuring their service is never forgotten.
