Funding for Hanover’s SNAP recipients, DASH program to continue through November

Hanover County residents who depend on two federally funded programs — Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Hanover DASH — will continue to receive support through November, despite the ongoing federal government shutdown.

 

The newly created Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) initiative will provide benefits to SNAP recipients through November. Hanover County will provide temporary funding to continue Hanover DASH However, if the shutdown continues beyond December 1, DASH operations will be suspended.

CARITAS announces surge shelter to support inclement weather shelter this winter

Hanover County joined our regional partners last week to announce a new surge shelter that will open during extreme winter weather to help people in need of a warm, safe place to stay.


Run by CARITAS, the surge shelter will support The Salvation Army Central Virginia's Inclement Weather Shelter in Richmond by adding extra space when temperatures fall below 40 degrees and other shelters are full.


Hanover is proud to stand alongside Richmond, Henrico and Chesterfield in funding and supporting this important regional effort to keep our communities safe this winter.

Hanover searching for feedback on Route 1 Gateway Small Area Plan

Hanover County is developing a Small Area Plan for the U.S. Route 1 corridor between the Chickahominy River and the Town of Ashland, and we want your input! This plan will guide how development and redevelopment occur in the area — helping to shape its look, feel and future.


Take an online survey at engage.hanovercounty.gov/route1plan to share your thoughts. You can also join us for a visioning workshop on Wednesday, Nov. 5, at 6 p.m.at Country Inn and Suites by Radisson, 11600 Lakeridge Parkway.


Your feedback will help create a plan for this important Economic Development Zone.

Hanover County hosts Governor’s Summit on Rural Prosperity

Hanover County took center stage last week as nearly 300 leaders from across Virginia gathered for the 2025 Governor’s Summit on Rural Prosperity.

 

Hosted in Hanover for the first time, the dynamic summit highlighted innovative ideas, success stories and opportunities shaping rural communities statewide. Governor Glenn Youngkin served as keynote speaker and several Hanover leaders participated in the event.

Hanover Public Works to host e-waste recycling event

Hanover County Public Works is hosting an e-waste recycling event on Saturday, Nov. 15, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mechanicsville Convenience Center, 7427 Verdi Lane.

Hanover County’s fourth Annual Caregiver Expo set for Nov. 17

Caregivers, families and community members are invited to Hanover County’s fourth annual Caregiver Expo on Monday, Nov. 17, from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ashland, 800 Thompson Street.


Presentations will cover topics such as fall prevention, veterans’ benefits, caregiver wellness and nutrition. The program will also include a “Moment of Gratitude” activity to honor caregivers for their dedication and compassion.
