Election Day is tomorrow!

Polling places will be open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7. Don't know your polling place? Click here to find it by entering your address.

Hanover County Animal Control and Shelter reports rabies cases are on the rise across the County.

There are 19 confirmed cases this year, which is almost double the number of cases in 2022.

Rabies can be transmitted through a bite or by getting saliva or brain tissue in a wound or in the eyes or mouth.

Keep in mind these tips from Chickahominy Health District to help prevent rabies:

• Vaccinate your pets.

• Report all exposures to animals (usually bites and scratches) to your doctor and CHD.

• Enjoy wildlife from a distance – do not feed or encourage wild animals to visit your premises.

If you've been bitten, don't panic. Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and lots of water. Report the animal to Animal Control at 804-365-6140.

A section of Cool Spring Road will close overnight Tuesday, Nov. 7 through Wednesday, Nov. 15 as part of the County's rural road safety project.

Each day from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. crews will work on adding a shoulder to both sides of the road along with center and edge lines. These updates will make the road safer for drivers.

Please follow posted detours.

All are invited to honor our military veterans by attending Hanover County Parks and Recreation's annual Veterans Day ceremony.

The ceremony will be held at Hanover Wayside Park, 8225 Hanover Wayside Road, on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.

In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Hanover County Administration Building, 7516 County Complex Road.

Hanover County courts will be closed Tuesday, Nov. 7 for Election Day.

Government offices and courts will be closed Friday, Nov. 10 for Veterans Day.

Our solid waste convenience centers will be closed on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11.

In honor of National Family Caregivers Month, join Hanover County Community Resources for their 2nd Annual Caregiver Expo!

This free educational event is on Wednesday, Nov. 15 from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at American Legion Post 175, 8700 Bell Creek Road.

There will be giveaways, door prizes, vendors and more!

Celebrate Hanover and King William Habitat for Humanity's five-home STAR development this weekend!

Join them for a kickoff ceremony on Saturday, Nov. 11 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of S. Taylor Street and Arlington Street for food, music and more.

This development will be the future home to five families, thanks to $900,000 of donations. If you would like to donate to this project, visit www.hkwhabitat.org/star.

In partnership with Rise Against Hunger, Team Hanover and their families packaged 1,250 meals to send to South Africa.

This meal packaging event provided a fun, educational way for our team to lend a helping hand to people facing hunger.
