Public hearing on County's proposed Comprehensive Plan next Wednesday

On Wednesday, September 13 at 6 p.m. the Board of Supervisors will hold its public hearing on the proposed 5-year update to the Comprehensive Plan, Envision Hanover.


This plan will be the County’s long-term guide for growth and development as well as the preservation of Hanover’s rural character.

Enrollment opens for Hanover County

Land Use Program

Enrollment opens Friday, September 1 for the Hanover County Land Use Program and runs through Wednesday, November 1.


This program enables qualified landowners to have their property assessed at “use value,” which may be lower than market value and reduce taxes owed.

Board of Supervisors adopts solar policy

The Board of Supervisors has adopted a policy on solar installations in the County. The policy not only guides the siting, location and land use decisions related to solar facilities but also addresses fiscal concerns.


All applications for these facilities will be expected to comply with the Board’s policy.

Community meeting tomorrow night on Ashland preschool

There is a community meeting Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 6 p.m. at Atlee Library for the Hanover Montessori, LLC application. The applicant will provide an overview of their Special Exception permit request.

As with all applications that move forward, there will be additional community engagement opportunities at the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors public hearings.

Nomination deadline approaching for

Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence

Nominations for the Jean C. Harris Award for Excellence are due by Friday, Sept. 8. The award is given to those who demonstrate outstanding contributions related to mental health, substance use and developmental disabilities.


Hanover County Community Services Board established the annual award in honor of long-time board member, community volunteer and advocate Jean Harris, who compassionately dedicated her time and energy to helping those in need.

Check your mailbox! The fall 2023 edition of "The Hanover Review" has been mailed!


"The Hanover Review" is the County's printed newsletter, delivered three times a year to all addresses in the County. It contains information about Hanover County government activities and includes information about Parks and Recreation programs, classes and events.

With 40 flavors of pound cake, Gimme Pound is bound to have a treat that satisfies your sweet tooth. 


In honor of Black Business Month, we visited Kimberly Fox-Knight, a Hanover native bringing the community together one pound cake at a time.

Several of our Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers received service awards for their outstanding work with children here in Hanover. The Board of Supervisors recognized them at last month's meeting.


CASA is accepting applications for its next training session for those interested in serving on behalf of abused and neglected children.

Finance and Management Services has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for our FY22 Annual Comprehensive Financial Report.


The County has received this prestigious award each fiscal year since 1985 and its the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. We could not be more grateful for our hardworking finance team!
