President's Message

Dear FAB Members,

Thanks to your continuing support, FAB has increased its support for our local arts community. This year, FAB awarded a total of 42 Performance and Exhibition grants, up from 36 last year, marking a 17% increase. FAB also granted 19 arts education awards, a 90% increase over the prior year. In total, 46 organizations will receive $400,000 in funding for programs in 2025, representing a 22% year-over-year increase. Notably, this includes 10 groups that are receiving FAB funding for the first time—diverse groups such as the National Art Exhibitions of the Mentally Ill and Black LGBTQ+ Liberation.

A complete list of all grantees and amounts can be found on our website at www.fundingartsbroward.org. The Grants Award celebration took place on May 9 at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center in Fort Lauderdale.

In our two-decade history, FAB has provided a total of $5 million to arts organizations serving Broward County.

Support for the arts is now more crucial than ever. Recent reports indicate that $32 million in potential support for 663 organizations statewide has been cut from Florida's state budget, including $3.3 million in 54 grant requests from arts organizations in Broward. The estimated economic impact of this loss to Broward County is more than $30 million, and the effects are immediate. Local groups and funders are exploring ways to mitigate this gap, emphasizing the need for greater advocacy for the arts and a stronger collective voice in support of the arts.

Our "Be the Spark" campaign serves as a starting point. The campaign has raised $2.2 million with a goal of $3 million. The New Initiatives Task Force has been gathering information and outlining potential areas of focus for FAB, including new pilot projects. A comprehensive report will be shared with FAB members and the broader community at a town hall-style meeting this fall. Details on this event will be sent later this summer.

As, FAB members, working collaboratively with other supporters, we can play a role in shaping a brighter more secure future for the arts in our community.

Welcome Newly Elected Board Members

Funding Arts Broward is excited to announce the newest additions to our Board of Directors for the 2024-2025 term. Please join us in welcoming our newly elected members, who will join thirteen existing board members, all who bring a wealth of talent, experience, and passion for the arts to our organization.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our outgoing Board members Ed Hashek, immediate past FAB President, Nancy Bryant, and Lisa Kasten for their unwavering dedication and exceptional contributions to FAB. Their visionary leadership and hard work have left an indelible mark on our organization, and we are truly grateful for their service.

Recap of FAB's Annual Awards Ceremony: A Night to Remember

It was a night filled with celebration, recognition, and inspiration as nearly 200 FAB members, grantees, and supporters came together to honor the achievements of Broward arts and culture organizations.

During the ceremony, FAB proudly awarded 61 grants to deserving performing/visual arts organizations and youth arts education initiatives for the upcoming 2025 program year. The diverse range of recipients showcased the vibrant and thriving arts scene in our community.

One of the memorable moments of the evening was a heartwarming poem titled "Art" by the talented Darius Daughtry, which resonated deeply with all attendees and underscored the transformative power of the arts.

Dr. Tameka Bradley-Hobbs graciously opened her doors at the African American Research Library and Cultural Center, providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere for the event. The premiere of a tribute video featuring our 2025 grantees was a highlight of the evening, capturing the essence of their passion and dedication to their craft.

We extend our sincere thanks to the nearly 60 fabulous members and volunteers whose hard work and dedication were instrumental in making the 2025 grants cycle a success. Special recognition goes to Judy Zucker and Scott Clearwater, our Grant Co-Chairs, for their leadership and tireless efforts in guiding the grant-making process.

We are grateful to our event sponsors - Coopers Hawk Winery & Restaurant, Berger Singerman, and Ellen Crane Marketing - for their generous support. The tribute video was produced by Visual by Momo, showcasing the talent and creativity of our grantees.

Be sure to watch the tribute video below to relive the magic of the evening.
