FOOD ASSISTANCE PROGRAM/DISTRIBUTIONS CHANGES
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, we had to adapt quickly to many situations and changes. The way we operated and interacted with families took on a different look. A great example is our food distribution model. Over the last three and a half years, we shifted from a choice pantry model to the mobile distributions, which were needed at the time. Now, we are looking at best practices and how to serve our families in a setting that allows dignity and acceptance, while allowing us to steward our resources efficiently.
Last month, we participated in a meeting with the American Heart Association and our Food Bank Partners, confirming that Choice Pantries are the ideal model that dignifies the experience for all of the families we are able to help. There is no food waste, every family gets to shop for what they need, and no one is limited to what we have available or left over at each mobile distribution.
After April 12th, we will be moving away from as many Food Distributions and opening a new and improved Choice Pantry at our Food Warehouse.
Instead of Food Warehouse Assistant positions and as many Food Distribution positions, we are excited to announce, effective May 6th, we will have new volunteer positions that include:
- Community Pantry Stocker
- Community Pantry Cart Attendant
- Community Pantry Assistant
- Community Pantry Greeter
- Community Pantry Donation Sorting Assistant
- Community Pantry Prayer Team
These will all be posted with descriptions on the VolunteerHub.
NOTE: Food Distributions at Limitless Church, FSW-LaBelle, and Golden Gate Senior Center will remain on the calendar with volunteer spots for sign-up.
If you have any questions, please reach out.
Thank you all for your servant hearts, hard work, and dedication to our Food Warehouse and Food Distributions over the past few years. We are so grateful for each and every one of you, and we do hope you will join us in the new volunteer roles!
