This year's legislative session was significant for Texas real estate consumers and private property rights. Our advocacy, responses to 'Calls for Action', and our March visit to the Capitol made the difference. The REALTORS' ® involvement helped to change the property tax system and school finance system to benefit taxpayers, to end cities' ability to forcibly annex property without the owner's approval, and to get more resources to property owners affected by disasters. Thank you to Education Chair Steve Etzel and Affiliate Attorney Kellie Stokes for our upcoming 4th issue of "Real Estate Pros in the Know" podcast - "Curative Items A Title Company Will Help Catch" (probate, tax liens, mortgages, divorces, trusts, etc.). The monthly podcasts are cataloged at www.glar.com and distributed to Members to use as a resource to educate their clients/contacts on real estate issues. REALTORS® know this community, know the city leaders, know the economic growth, and are EXPERTS about our town(s). They have the MOST accurate real estate information for living in this area. We want to ensure our community is aware. This 4th issue will be emailed the last day of June.

Our Community Services Committee is needing Members to help fill CCA 'Bags of Blessings' in

July. Contact Charlotte Finley at [email protected] if you can join our Committee to help make summer lunches for school kids. No $ to you, just a little time.

STUFF the BUS is coming your way! Our goal is 1,000 stuffed backpacks for local school children. This is our 6th year to provide for financially challenged students.

Two separate events this year:

1) REALTOR ® /WalMart Day on July 19! Join REALTORS ® , Affiliates, LISD School Board, Marquettes, Drum Line, Scouts, the Media as we set up supply collection stations around WalMart (Round Grove Rd). Store shoppers can donate to our cause, then get a free snow cone on us!

2) Broker/Affiliate Bus Day on July 29. Our big bus filled with pompom waving Members will be coming around to our participating Brokers and Affiliates to pick up supplies. GLAR provides the backpacks, YOU provide the supplies ( about $20 to fill up pack with specific school items.) #realtorsservesupportsell

Affiliate Spotlight

David Hodges has been a member of GLAR since 2006, and, a most EXCELLENT Affiliate he has been! He has Emcee'd, energized, arranged, advertised, planned, partied, decorated, and danced his way at every single event GLAR has held since he joined. He is known for his high spirits and giving attitude as is displayed by his serving on the Boards of Directors for GLAR, Rotary Club, FM Chamber of Commerce, Youth & Family Counseling, and the YMCA! In ALL his spare time, he can be caught out at the lake fishing with his family.

David is a Mortgage Lending Officer for Southside Bank, with offices in the immediate area of Flower Mound, Grapevine, and Las Colinas, but he can go anywhere in Texas. And, he will! This is the kind of professional that can and will help REALTORS ® build their businesses and take ultimate care of their clients. Thank you, David, for giving back to all in such a huge way!

Per your Membership agreement, membership updates, including email, phone, home address, etc. must be made in writing. Be sure to use the Member Info change form on the Forms tab of GLAR.com (Realtor column) or email [email protected].

MLS Tip for July:

Coming Soon status is treated in MLS as an active listing, however not yet ready for showings. Keep in mind your seller should settle on a price BEFORE listing in put of any kind - even as coming soon - as it will show as a price change rather than a new listing when updating status to Active.
