July 2022
A Personal Message from the Director
Happy 4th of July! We are spending the weekend with our friends from Baha’i Summer School. They were a traditional part of our summer schedule until 1990 and now they are back with over 200 guests. It turns out this might be our biggest group of the summer. Many groups are coming with around 200. Not bad considering we are all still learning how live with new virus reality.

We have a golf cart for rent! I purchased a pretty red four-seater. Contact the Seabeck Office to reserve it for your group. It rents for $50 per day. I love that carts like this allow more people to enjoy Seabeck. These hills get steeper every year.

We have discussed many options with our summer groups and have decided to continue the buffet style food service into the foreseeable future. We will add a second buffet and salad bar when the group size requires it. This style for foodservice allows for more flexibility and isolation if desired. Two lines should cut the service time to allow for announcements and graces.

The repairs to Cypress have moved along. The laundry room is dried in and awaiting the electrician. The front deck and ramp have been replaced with a new Trex style deck that should reduce maintenance costs over the years. Roofers start on Tuesday. The front of my house might look a little funny until fall. The new railing can’t be painted for a month so that the pressure treatment chemicals can dry. The new railing will be painted to match the trim color. I feel funny talking to guests and staff about money being tight, while it appears my house is being remodeled. This is all being paid for by insurance. I can’t wait to run a load of laundry without hauling down the hill.

The horseshoe pits were remodeled last month by the Morris and Crider families from Camp Seabeck. They look great! Thanks for the hard work and donated supplies!

We have a busy week ahead with a couple of quick campus turn arounds between multiple groups. We are going to pause to have a staff party on Tuesday. July 5th is Buster’s Gotcha Day. He joined our staff one year ago this week! We are going to have dog friendly cake and ice cream. I keep saying that the last thing I needed was a dog. Now I can’t imagine not having him around. Thanks to all the groups, guest and staff for making him feel so welcome!

Have a safe and sane Independence Day! We can’t wait to see you on campus this summer.

Golf Cart Rental for Groups
We have purchased a golf cart for groups to rent while they are here. This is a great addition for our summer groups that need a cart to transport their guest with mobility issues. Anyone driving the cart must be over the age of 18 and there is an agreement to sign. The cart rents for $50 per day.
Meeting House Sound System
July Eliot donated our sound system years ago and has now donated a nice upgraded system. They have even added a new speaker for the back of the room that works great. Now everyone in the room can hear with clarity.

Here are the names of those who came and installed the new Meeting House PA system upgrade. Thank you for your time and knowledge.

Ways to Donate to Seabeck
WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT
SEABECK CONFERENCE CENTER
Want to help us lay the foundation for the next decade of Seabeck Conference Center?
There are many ways, not all of them involving huge disbursements of cash.
Here are some creative ideas you might not have thought about:

Cash Donation Today
Tax-deductible gifts via check, credit card, in person, or online. Please consider
upping your regular gift by another 10 percent.

Automatic Monthly Payments
Gifts can be deducted periodically from your bank account, making larger donations
easier by spreading them over time.

Low-Cost Appreciated Stock
Avoid paying the capital gains by giving full-market value to Seabeck Conference Center.

In-Kind Donation
We are always in need of furniture, lighting, rugs, and much more - the market value is tax-deductible.

Multi-Year Pledges
A great way to ensure support will be there when we need it year after year.

Designated Gifts
Donate to a targeted project or capital campaign.

Commemorative Gifts
Donate a bench or rocking chair in honor of someone or something important to you.

A Bequest in Your Will
Your gift can be a specific sum or a percentage of an estate after other bequests.
Just add an addendum to your existing will.

Life Insurance and Savings Accounts
Same as retirement plans, except those payments made to Seabeck Conference Center
are exempt only from estate taxes.

IRA's and Retirement Plans
Your estate receives a charitable deduction for the full gift amount on estate and income
taxes, while we receive full donation value. Non-charitable heirs receive only a part of
the value (since inherited assets are subject to estate and income taxes).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. You must be 70 1/2 or older to be eligible to make a QCD.

All gifts are welcome. Seabeck Conference Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your contribution may be tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Director, Chuck Kraining at (360) 830-5010 or email him at chuck@seabeck.org.
