April 2022
A Personal Message from the Director

Ok, so I have been around this place for almost 32 years. Firsts become less and less common as the years fly by. Today I rode an elevator on our campus for the first time! I can say that other than the novelty of it being the first time and the fact that it was completed, it’s not exactly a thrill ride. I guess much like air travel, it probably shouldn’t be. Anyway, that is the second to last piece to be finished with Pines. We replaced our temporary occupancy permit with a permanent one today. We got occupancy by purchasing a bond that guarantees we will finish the landscaping. We will do that on April 30th.

Saturday April 30th will be our Pines Landscaping Work Party. We will start around 9AM, although you can come later and join in. We will be planting the 2132 plants required by our landscape plan. These range from 4” beach strawberries to 15-gallon trees and shrubs. Part of the plan is fresh dirt around the building, so it should be easy digging. Please bring garden tools and gloves. We will provide lunch for the work crew. I imagine it will be completed by early afternoon, depending on how many people attend. The Pines is full that weekend, so we won’t be doing tours inside. I hope we get great weather, and you can joins us!

April is Kitsap GreatGive month. The actual Great Give Day in April 19th, but the Kitsap Community Foundation is opening the early giving period on April 1st. There are small matching funds and bonuses that could extend your gift by 10% or so. We have been very well supported by our guests and donors through this challenging Covid era. We are joining GreatGive because it is a fun way to interact with our donors. Our website on Great Give is: https://kitsapgreatgive.org/profile/s/seabeck-conference-center. We will also be participating in the Washington Gives GiveBig May 3-4th. This used to be called GiveBig-Seattle.

We have most of the limbs cleared from the property thanks to our Maintenance Crew. We also had a lot of help from the Washington Youth Academy. Around 40 cadets came out on March 12th and spent 6 hours volunteering around the campus. They did a great job clearing debris and ivy from various place. Thank you for your help Major Cruz and crew!
The campus is turning green and the cherry trees are in full bloom. We have 160 people from 4 groups here for the next four days. It’s starting to feel like the old days. 2022 is going to be alright!

Hope to see you on April 30th!

Thanks,
Chuck

Art in the Woods

This display is hanging up in the woods along the trail. The kids from one of the summer groups created this in 2019. I am amazed that it has lasted almost 3 years already. What's even more amazing is that it lasted through the storm in January that took down so many trees on the property.

Ways to Donate to Seabeck
WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT
SEABECK CONFERENCE CENTER
Want to help us lay the foundation for the next decade of Seabeck Conference Center?
There are many ways, not all of them involving huge disbursements of cash.
Here are some creative ideas you might not have thought about:

Cash Donation Today
Tax-deductible gifts via check, credit card, in person, or online. Please consider
upping your regular gift by another 10 percent.

Automatic Monthly Payments
Gifts can be deducted periodically from your bank account, making larger donations
easier by spreading them over time.

Low-Cost Appreciated Stock
Avoid paying the capital gains by giving full-market value to Seabeck Conference Center.

In-Kind Donation
We are always in need of furniture, lighting, rugs, and much more - the market value is tax-deductible.

Multi-Year Pledges
A great way to ensure support will be there when we need it year after year.

Designated Gifts
Donate to a targeted project or capital campaign.

Commemorative Gifts
Donate a bench or rocking chair in honor of someone or something important to you.

A Bequest in Your Will
Your gift can be a specific sum or a percentage of an estate after other bequests.
Just add an addendum to your existing will.

Life Insurance and Savings Accounts
Same as retirement plans, except those payments made to Seabeck Conference Center
are exempt only from estate taxes.

IRA's and Retirement Plans
Your estate receives a charitable deduction for the full gift amount on estate and income
taxes, while we receive full donation value. Non-charitable heirs receive only a part of
the value (since inherited assets are subject to estate and income taxes).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. You must be 70 1/2 or older to be eligible to make a QCD.

All gifts are welcome. Seabeck Conference Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your contribution may be tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Director, Chuck Kraining at (360) 830-5010 or email him at chuck@seabeck.org.
