A Personal Message from the Director
A new era in Seabeck history starts today. Literally. Tonight, we have our first guests spending the night in Pines. It took 30 months to complete but when you see it you will agree it was worth the wait. I am a little biased, but it is an incredibly pretty and functional building. All the furniture is in place, and it still has ample space to move around. I can't wait to show it off. Thanks to all who helped make this possible.

We received the full Murdock grant money this week. Along with the check was a lovely note saying how impressed they were that we could finish a building during Covid. Now that I am not worried about inspections and furniture orders, I can reflect a little bit on that as well. This really is an incredible organization. From staff to Board to guests and donors. While many centers across the nation are closing, we are opening a state-of-the-art building that will carry us into the future. That is because of the total team effort that made it happen. THANK YOU!

Speaking of thank you…We sent out the end-of-year donation summaries this week. I usually talk about how I can see almost every person in my head. That wasn’t so true this time. We had a record number of new donors last year. I had to ask Gloria what group the people came from. Some have never been here as far as we can tell. I think it was our limited involvement in the Covid sheltering program for Kitsap County. I think people in Kitsap saw we were trying to help and sent in donations. It wasn’t the reason we did it but it sure is nice when good deeds, courage, and sacrifices are rewarded.

While we are missing our friends from Scottish Arts this week, the rest of the year still looks good. Some family groups are wavering, but we have lots of groups calling and ready to come. I took a tour around campus for a youth group. When we got to Pines, they changed to an adult group and moved to a mid-week time frame to get the building. Long-time groups that cancel this year could make for a challenging time next year if both groups want to come back to the same dates. We will have to find space for the groups that didn’t attend in 2022. It’s a good problem to have, but we may lose some very long traditions around here. I hope not.

Mark your calendars for the Pines Landscaping Work Party on Saturday, April 30th starting around 10 AM. More info will follow as we approach the dates.

Well, here we go into the future. I am sure glad to have you along for the ride.

Thanks,
Chuck

Ways to Donate to Seabeck
WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT
SEABECK CONFERENCE CENTER
Want to help us lay the foundation for the next decade of Seabeck Conference Center?
There are many ways, not all of them involving huge disbursements of cash.
Here are some creative ideas you might not have thought about:

Cash Donation Today
Tax-deductible gifts via check, credit card, in person, or online. Please consider
upping your regular gift by another 10 percent.

Automatic Monthly Payments
Gifts can be deducted periodically from your bank account, making larger donations
easier by spreading them over time.

Low-Cost Appreciated Stock
Avoid paying the capital gains by giving full-market value to Seabeck Conference Center.

In-Kind Donation
We are always in need of furniture, lighting, rugs, and much more - the market value is tax-deductible.

Multi-Year Pledges
A great way to ensure support will be there when we need it year after year.

Designated Gifts
Donate to a targeted project or capital campaign.

Commemorative Gifts
Donate a bench or rocking chair in honor of someone or something important to you.

A Bequest in Your Will
Your gift can be a specific sum or a percentage of an estate after other bequests.
Just add an addendum to your existing will.

Life Insurance and Savings Accounts
Same as retirement plans, except those payments made to Seabeck Conference Center
are exempt only from estate taxes.

IRA's and Retirement Plans
Your estate receives a charitable deduction for the full gift amount on estate and income
taxes, while we receive full donation value. Non-charitable heirs receive only a part of
the value (since inherited assets are subject to estate and income taxes).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)
A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. You must be 70 1/2 or older to be eligible to make a QCD.

All gifts are welcome. Seabeck Conference Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your contribution may be tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Director, Chuck Kraining at (360) 830-5010 or email him at chuck@seabeck.org.
