A Message from the Director

I can’t believe it’s almost the summer season. We are hurriedly getting things ready for the upcoming busy season. I have to say that the campus is in great shape right now. We hosted around 220 of our friends from Eastshore and University Unitarians Churches over Memorial Day weekend. I always think of them as our first summer group.

I think sometimes people misunderstand when I talk about the summer as the busy season. It is of course, our busiest in terms of volume of guests, but we are busy all year long. We did not have one day in May without guests here. In fact we are in the middle of 53 straight days of guests. We did have two days in April and two in June that are open. After those days in mid-June, we start a new streak of 71 straight days. That’s 124 days out of 126 with guests!

We have completed the swim dock and look forward to seeing it used this summer.

We are just completing a newsletter for our summer guests. We will send it out to the summer groups to be included with registration materials. There are some things going on in and around Seabeck that will make this year a little different. Such as:

  • Newberry Hill Road will be closed all summer for salmon improvements. (see below).
  • We are going to try and cut down on food waste due to unclaimed alternate diets.
  • We are changing the way we do housekeeping this summer. We aren’t sure how it will go. We think we will be OK, but please be aware that if you arrive before the group check-in time, you might find the campus completely closed. We appreciate how excited everyone is to start their time at Seabeck, but the early arrivals (even to just use the bathroom) create unnecessary stress and delays for the staff. Salmon Bake Beach will be available, and the porta-potty will be open. We will open the bridge and gate as soon as we are ready to greet you with a clean campus.
  • There is a large construction project happening on the property next to Salmon Bake Beach. The owner has asked us to please stay off his property as it is a dangerous work zone. He has had some trouble with trespassers and has installed cameras on the site. I believe the “visitors” are not Seabeck guests. I have told him to feel free to call the sheriff if he gets trespassers on his cam. Let’s not prove me wrong HAHA.

Even with these challenges, I am looking forward to a very fun summer. Each group feels like a reunion of sorts for me. I can’t wait to say Hi to everyone.

Thanks,

Chuck

Summer Detour to Seabeck

We wanted to make you aware of an upcoming road improvement project in Central Kitsap. This project is located on NW Newberry Hill Rd between Sesame St NW and Hide A Way Ln NW from June 20, 2024 to Sept 3, 2024.

This road closure will affect all of our summer groups. Here is a map of the area and how to get to Seabeck without using Newberry Hill Road.

Snapshots from Seabeck

Eagle and crow at the entrance on the bridge.

The geese have had all their babies. They have been causing traffic jams on the highway, but everyone seems patient with them. We have three families and Chuck said he counted 19 babies the other day!

A lost rooster!

The Northern Lights put on a great show for Seabeck. Glad we could add some amazing beauty for our weekend guests!

Ways to Donate to Seabeck

Do you want to help us lay the foundation for the next decade of Seabeck Conference Center? There are many ways, not all of them involving huge disbursements of cash. Here are some creative ideas you

might not have thought about:

Cash Donation Today

Tax-deductible gifts via check, credit card, in person, or online. Please consider

upping your regular gift by another 10 percent.

Automatic Monthly Payments

Gifts can be deducted periodically from your bank account, making larger donations easier by spreading them over time.

Low-Cost Appreciated Stock

Avoid paying the capital gains by giving full-market value to Seabeck Conference Center.

In-Kind Donation

We are always in need of furniture, lighting, rugs, and much more - the market value is tax-deductible.

Multi-Year Pledges

A great way to ensure support will be there when we need it year after year.

Designated Gifts

Donate to a targeted project or capital campaign.

Commemorative Gifts

Donate a bench or rocking chair in honor of someone or something important to you.

A Bequest in Your Will

Your gift can be a specific sum or a percentage of an estate after other bequests. Just add an addendum to your existing will.

Life Insurance and Savings Accounts

Same as retirement plans, except those payments made to Seabeck Conference Center are exempt only from estate taxes.

IRA's and Retirement Plans

Your estate receives a charitable deduction for the full gift amount on estate and income taxes, while we receive full donation value. Non-charitable heirs receive only a part of the value (since inherited assets are subject to estate and income taxes).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. You must be 70-1/2 or older to be eligible to make a QCD.

All gifts are welcome. Seabeck Conference Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your contribution may be tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Director, Chuck Kraining at

(360) 830-5010 or email him at chuck@seabeck.org.
