A Message from the Director

Happy Fall,

I walked home last night after dinner and my outdoor lighting was on. That is a sure sign that the days are getting shorter. That and the spiders everywhere say winter is coming. I had a great trip to Europe for Matej’s wedding. It was a perfect event. They had very thoughtfully planned every aspect and it went off without a hitch. I also enjoyed my time in Hungary and the UK. When I returned another host son was here from Turkey. He went to WSU with me for a weekend. By Sunday he was applying to attend Grad school in Pullman! Go Cougs!

Thank you for the suggestions about the swim dock and beach area. We are formulating a plan to improve everything down there. Stay tuned for more information. At a minimum, we will have a new dock down there for 2024.

For the 17th time, we are hosting the Seabeck Community once again this Halloween. We plan to be outside and have around 1,000 people come in the two hours. If you happen to be coming this way, we can use candy donations. Also, if you want to volunteer for the event, please let us know.

Registration is open for the Friends of Seabeck Weekend and a Seabeck Crafters Weekend being held December 8-10. We will host our traditional Friends of Seabeck event with craft projects, a cooking demonstration, a holiday movie, Seabeck talk, receptions, food, drinks, and fun. In addition, we are offering a crafter's weekend. We will provide every registrant with a room, meals, and a table in a meeting space to do their crafts. This will be a great chance to finish some Christmas projects and meet others who share your passion. Sign up now, we expect this to fill up fast.

Later this month you will receive a letter from me asking for help in completing a few projects around campus. While we survived Covid, we had to delay many much-needed projects around campus. With your help, we can thrive into the future. I hope you will consider supporting these projects.

Speaking of support…I can’t help but pause again and thank everyone for all you have done for us through the years. I keep talking about us surviving. Partly because I really wasn’t sure we would. I tried to be positive and put on a brave face, but deep down, I didn’t know if we would make it. We did make it and that is largely due to support from our friends and guests. I am so happy planning for the future rather than wondering if we have one. THANK YOU!

Chuck

Ways to Donate to Seabeck

WAYS YOU CAN SUPPORT

SEABECK CONFERENCE CENTER

Want to help us lay the foundation for the next decade of Seabeck Conference Center? There are many ways, not all of them involving huge disbursements of cash. Here are some creative ideas you might not have thought about:

Cash Donation Today

Tax-deductible gifts via check, credit card, in person, or online. Please consider

upping your regular gift by another 10 percent.

Automatic Monthly Payments

Gifts can be deducted periodically from your bank account, making larger donations easier by spreading them over time.

Low-Cost Appreciated Stock

Avoid paying the capital gains by giving full-market value to Seabeck Conference Center.

In-Kind Donation

We are always in need of furniture, lighting, rugs, and much more - the market value is tax-deductible.

Multi-Year Pledges

A great way to ensure support will be there when we need it year after year.

Designated Gifts

Donate to a targeted project or capital campaign.

Commemorative Gifts

Donate a bench or rocking chair in honor of someone or something important to you.

A Bequest in Your Will

Your gift can be a specific sum or a percentage of an estate after other bequests. Just add an addendum to your existing will.

Life Insurance and Savings Accounts

Same as retirement plans, except those payments made to Seabeck Conference Center are exempt only from estate taxes.

IRA's and Retirement Plans

Your estate receives a charitable deduction for the full gift amount on estate and income taxes, while we receive full donation value. Non-charitable heirs receive only a part of the value (since inherited assets are subject to estate and income taxes).

Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD)

A QCD is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your required minimum distributions (RMDs) for the year, as long as certain rules are met. You must be 70-1/2 or older to be eligible to make a QCD.

All gifts are welcome. Seabeck Conference Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and your contribution may be tax-deductible. If you have any questions, please contact our Executive Director, Chuck Kraining at

(360) 830-5010 or email him at chuck@seabeck.org.
