Board President's Message - Kelly O'Neal, CMP, MBA

Our Own Algorithm

With the Annual Conference only days away, the internet algorithm is constantly presenting ‘all things’ Albuquerque and New Mexico – the good and the Breaking Bad (ha ha ha, I couldn’t help myself).  The good statements mentioned the grand vistas, the warm people, the deep-rooted history and the abundant quirkiness.  One particular comment stood out, it said “New Mexico is underrated, diverse and beautiful”.  What?!?  I felt this comment in my ACCED-I core!  And I am certain many of you may feel it, too.  First of all, being in the hospitality industry at our respective institutions certainly makes us a little unique on campus.  This uniqueness may have resulted in our departments, staff and work being underrated, I dare say sometimes unappreciated. However, we time and time again have proven our value. Value in monetary terms, in visibility and in service to the campus community.
