Issue Date: January 8, 2018 | Welcome to your latest issue of shelter news, updates, and information!
Dog Walkers, please note that during construction staff had to empty an Isolation area and move a number of dogs to the A-Extended Kennel. Until further notice, volunteers are not permitted access to this area of the dog kennels. This is for the health and protection of both the dogs and volunteers.
Nappy and Benny have been moved to D-Kennel for continued access for walks and training by volunteers. We appreciate your attention to this matter.

Volunteering to assist with our dishes is no glamours feat, but one that is truly important and sincerely appreciated. Recently, some of the squeaky pig toys have made it to the hallway bin so a canine resident has the opportunity to enjoy hours of fun with the toy in their kennel. However, these pigs were full of soap! The pet toys can be extremely difficult to clean and sanitize appropriately, especially with their weird sizing and added extremities. So, please be sure to squeeze those pigs free of soap and water before placing in the hallway toy bins! A sign has been placed in the dish washing area to raise awareness to both corporate volunteer groups and community service that might be helping with this shelter job.

So many pulled together to support HSHA with the 22nd annual Penguin Plunge and the results reflect our team work. The weather was far more cooperative this year than last, which added to the excitement! Missy Sue raised over $2,165 beating 105.7 The X's Tommy Tucker. However, Tommy was still a successful competitor raising more than his starting goal, with a total of $1,179. We did come in just shy of our total fundraising goal with a grand total of $27,143. Nonetheless, the event was fun for everyone in attendance. So, thank you to everyone who donated, volunteered, and supported the Penguin Plunge in one form or another. The event is a New Year's Day tradition that has become a staple for the residents of Central PA. Happy New Year!
