Did you know there are four schools with Pre-k classrooms in the Boise School District? Kindergarten can be a lot to handle, for everyone involved, and we're dedicated to making that an easier, more successful process for parents and their children.
Kindergarten plays a vital role in getting our youngest kids emotionally, mentally, and physically ready for years of learning. The Boise School District offers kindergarten at every elementary school, including full-day programs at 15!
NAMES AND FACES
Boise High Senior Named a Top Scholar: The Society for Science & the Public is proud to share that Boise High School senior Jayanth Mouli (pictured) has been named a Top 300 Scholar in the 79th Regeneron Science Talent Search - the nation's oldest and most prestigious science and mathematics competition for high school seniors. Jayanth is the only scholar from Idaho in 2020 and will receive a $2,000 award. Boise High will also receive $2,000 to use towards STEM-related activities.
East Junior High Student Receives Essay Scholarship: Violet Conklin (pictured) , 9th grade, East Junior High School is one of only two Idaho students to receive an essay scholarship as part of a contest sponsored by  Next Gen Personal Finance (NGPF), a non-profit committed to ensuring that ALL students leave high school with the skills needed to thrive in an increasingly complex financial world.
Alliance Will Help Prepare Students To Enter The Workforce: A signing ceremony held between Boise School District's Dennis Technical Education Center and U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety & Health Administration marks a new partnership (one of the first in Idaho) to train students in occupational safety and health hazards and help prepare students to enter the workforce. As part of the ceremony, seventeen DTEC students received their OSHA 10 Certification Card - a major accomplishment toward entering the workforce.
Boise District Educator Featured in National Video: Borah High School Environmental Science Teacher Gina Lockwood is featured in a national video produced by the M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust about the Partners in Science program - an initiative partnering high school science teachers with research mentors to expand their scientific horizons.
Willamette University Musicians to Perform at Capital High School: The Willamette University Chamber Choir and Willamette Singers, under the direction of Wallace Long , will perform Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2020, 7:30 p.m. at Capital High School, 8055 W. Goddard R., Boise, ID 83704. The performance will include a variety of sacred and secular works, both a cappella and accompanied. Capital High School choirs, directed by Willamette graduate, Joie Cariaga and Boise High School choirs, directed by David Burton will also perform in the concert. The concert is free and open to the public, although a goodwill donation is encouraged.

Paul Tillotson Music Scholarship Concert: Borah High School will hold the Paul Tillotson Music Scholarship Concert on Tuesday, January 21 beginning at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium. This year's concert will feature Justin Nielsen , Jim Kassis and Rod Wray with the Borah High Jazz Band, Choir & Orchestra. Jazz pianist Paul Tillotson, a South Junior High and Borah High School graduate, died after a long battle with cancer in 2016. Tillotson grew up in Boise, playing around town as a teenager with the Young Jazz Lions, a group he started with singer and saxophonist Curtis Stigers , bassist Rod Wray and drummer Jim Kassis. He would raise funds for a number of charities, including his alma mater Borah High School’s music scholarship program.
HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE OUR STUDENTS

Each month, the Boise School Board honors deserving teachers and support staff through the District's highest awards program - the Red Apple Award for teachers and the Golden Apple Award for classified employees. 

On Monday, January 13, 2020, the Board of Trustees presented the Red Apple Award to  Andrew Porter , 9th grade English Teacher, North Junior High School, pictured receiving the award from Trustee Dave Wagers . 

For the Golden Apple Award, the Board honored  Cindy Scriver , Title I Paraprofessional, Taft Elementary School, pictured receiving the award from Trustee Dr. Troy Rohn .

Boise School District Receives National Budget Presentation Award: Boise School District has been selected to receive the 2019–2020 Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). The district has been participating in the MBA program for 17 years, and this is the 17th consecutive year that the District has received this prestigious award.

Do you want to learn more about the hottest growing jobs? Then be sure to attend the 2020 STEM Expo on Wednesday, January 22, 2020. That’s when you’ll learn from nurses, engineers, cybersecurity experts, physicians, skilled trades workers, software designers, geologists, STEM students, architects, contractors, university representatives, computer programmers and more about what it takes to successfully pursue a career in a wide variety of STEM fields.

All Boise School District junior high school and senior high school students and their parents are invited to attend this year’s STEM Expo 2020. The STEM Expo is free and will be held at the Dennis Technical Education Center, 3324 S. Pro Tech Drive, Boise (behind the District Services Center on Victory Road). Exhibits open at 5 p.m. and panel discussions begin at 5:30 p.m.

 What are your student’s goals? What courses should your student take? What options does the Boise School District offer for Math, Science, English and Social Studies? Boise School District will hold a series of information nights for parents to answer these questions.

Why:  To help parents make informed decisions about what course options are best for their student based on their goals
