Kindergarten is an exciting time for our little humans, but they might not know what to expect. NAMES AND FACES
STUDENT NAMED FINALIST IN NATIONAL VOLUNTEER AWARDS PROGRAM

Vishali Sutharsan (pictured), a 9th grade student at Les Bois Junior High School, is recognized as an Idaho Distinguished Finalist in the Prudential Spirit of Community Awards program. Vishali volunteers in a variety of ways to benefit people with special needs in her community; she raised more than $1,000 for Autism Speaks and she founded the “Sunflower Lunch Bunch,” which connects volunteers with students who have special needs. Vishali also regularly spends time in her school's special education classroom, visiting with students and helping them complete adaptive physical education exercises. Watch the following video to learn more.
STUDENT ACCEPTED INTO NATIONAL YOUTH ORCHESTRA

Borah High School Band Senior Fernando Perez (pictured) is one of the five flutists to be selected into the  National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). This free program is provided for all participants by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute, that brings together the brightest young players from across the country to form NYO-USA. 
BORAH AVID'S SHADOW DAY

Borah High School's 120 AVID students hosted 60 rising sophomore students from South and West junior high schools for AVID's Shadow Day on January 30th. Borah students planned the day and spent time with AVID ninth graders by sharing breakfast and lunch, having conversations about classes and activities, taking students to class with them, and explaining strategies for success in high school academics.   
BOISE DISTRICT STUDENTS EARN TOP AWARDS AT ANNUAL MATH COMPETITION

On Saturday, February 8th, teams of District junior high school students competed in the annual Southwest Idaho MathCounts Competition held at Boise State University. The team from East Junior High School (pictured with Math Instructor Charles McAllister ) took home the First Place Trophy, followed by the team from Les Bois Junior High School that earned the Second Place Trophy. Both teams now advance to the state competition.
GIRLS VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM EARNS STATE ACADEMIC AWARD

The Idaho High School Activities Association is pleased to announce that the Timberline High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team (pictured) has received the 2019-2020 Winter Sports/Activities Academic State Champions Award. This award is presented to the varsity team in each classification that achieves the highest cumulative grade point average. The Timberline High School Girls Varsity Basketball Team earned a cumulative GPA of 3.913.
STUDENTS COMPETE IN ANNUAL CO2 DRAGSTER CHAMPIONSHIPS

On Friday, February 7, 2020, South Junior High School hosted the annual Boise School District Tech 9 Co2 Dragster Championships. This annual event allows ninth grade students from the Boise School District the opportunity to design, build and compete with the top Co2 dragsters from the District's participating junior high schools. KINDNESS SYMPOSIUM SPREADS POWERFUL MESSAGE

On Friday, February 7, 2020, elementary school students worked side by side with high school and junior high students in a unique kindness symposium designed to spark ideas and strategies for students to plan their own random acts of kindness during Kindness Week (February 18-21).  Watch the following video to learn more.
STUDENT WINS STEM EXPO PRIZE DRAWING

Bowen Lim (pictured), a 7th grade student at Boise School District's Treasure Valley Math & Science Center is the recipient of the STEM Expo's grand prize drawing of an iPad. Held on January 22nd, the STEM Expo provided students with an opportunity to learn from STEM professionals about what it takes to pursue a career in the fastest growing career path - Science, Technology, Engineering and Math.
HONORING THOSE WHO SERVE OUR STUDENTS

Each month, the Boise School Board honors deserving teachers and support staff through the District's highest awards program - the Red Apple Award for teachers and the Golden Apple Award for classified employees. 

On Monday, February 10, 2020, the Board of Trustees presented the Red Apple Award to  Quane Kenyon , principal, Fairmont Junior High School, pictured receiving the award from Vice President Maria Greeley

For the Golden Apple Award, the Board honored  Steve Thrall head custodian, Borah High School, pictured receiving the award from President Nancy Gregory .

Join West Junior High School on Thursday night, February 20th at 7 p.m. in the gymnasium to celebrate a late Valentine’s Day with the West choirs, the jazz choir Mustang Magic, and the West Jazz band.

No charge for admission! Raffles and silent auction items will be available during the concert to help raise money for the Dravet Foundation . Dravet Syndrome is a seizure disorder that has no cure at this time.
Future West Junior High School student Owen Watson (pictured) suffers from Dravet Syndrome. Owen is 6 years old, tenacious, and loves music! Please join us Thursday, Feb. 20th in support of Owen and a search for a cure for Dravet Syndrome.

Pierce Park Elementary School's PTO is holding a brick fundraiser to help raise money for an electronic reader board for the new Pierce Park Elementary School . All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the cost of Pierce Park’s new electronic reader board and brick courtyard. Your Boise School District is working to conserve energy. In the latest edition of Green Apple Bites (a quarterly newsletter about energy conservation), learn how our Food Service program is decreasing the use of disposable styrofoam trays, how District students are passionately working to help reduce plastic usage and to properly recycle what is used, and how schools and the District are working to reduce energy usage.
