STUDENTS NAMED U.S. PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARS CANDIDATES

A total of 20 Boise School District high school students have been selected as U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidates. The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. Boise School District's 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidates represent 43% of Idaho's total number of 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program candidates (46). That's an impressive showing considering that Boise School District enrolls about 8% of the public school students in Idaho. GRADUATE TO RECEIVE NATIONAL ART AWARD
Boise High graduate, Aidin Andrews (pictured), will be honored as a winner of an international illustrating contest - The 36th   Annual L. Ron Hubbard Achievement Awards in Hollywood, CA on April 3, 2020. Andrews, who now lives in Bellingham, WA, was e ncouraged to pursue his interests from a young age. Some of Aidin’s most pervasive personal inspirations are his mother, Annie Andrews , who owns her own jewelry business, and his high school art teacher, Katy Shanafelt , Boise High School.

Award organizers will be flying Aidin to Hollywood for a week-long professional workshop, an awards event and his art (pictured below) will be published in our anthology, L. Ron Hubbard Presents Writers of the Future Volume 36, which has been on the bestseller lists numerous times in past years. The contest is in its 36th year!
STUDENTS WIN REGIONAL WRITING CONTEST

Congratulations to Borah High School AP Literature student Savannah Johnson who won 1st place, the Gold Key, in Critical Essay for Scholastic's regional writing contest and to her classmates, Amy Nguyen (Dramatic Script) and Julia Porte r (Short Story) for Silver Key awards. These writers were recognized at Boise State's Special Events Center on Saturday, February 22nd. Their teachers are Pam Atkins and Toni Ansotegui .

STUDENTS DRUMMING TO SUCCEED

RIVERSIDE BOYS WIN BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to the Riverside boy's elementary school team - winners of the District basketball tournament! Coaches, pictured left to right: Matthew Taylor, John Bale, Jason Shanks, and Aaron Villarin.
CHEER TEAM EARNS STATE ACADEMIC AWARD

The Idaho High School Activities Association is pleased to announce that the Borah High School Girls Cheeer Team (pictured) has received the 2019-2020 Winter Sports/Activities Academic State Champions Award. This award is presented to the varsity team in each classification that achieves the highest cumulative grade point average. The Borah High Cheer Team earned a cumulative GPA of 3.600.
MUSIC STUDENTS RECOGNIZED

Congratulations to the Borah High Jazz Ensemble students for their great performance at the District Three Jazz Festival. The band received a Superior Rating again this year. Only seven of 37 bands were rated Superior. The Borah Jazz Ensemble is the only band in District Three to be rated Superior 27 of the past 28 years.They have had the High score an unprecedented 12 times. Also, congratulations to the Capital High Jazz Ensemble for their performance at the District Three Jazz Festival. Capital received the highest possible rating, a Superior Rating, and were awarded the second highest score of the Festival. In addition, congratulations to the Timberline High Jazz Ensemble. The 20-member Jazz Band performed on Friday, December 6 at the IMEA District III Jazz Festival and received a Superior rating for the 10th consecutive year.
BOISE HIGH SCHOOL RECOGNIZED
Boise High School has earned the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for attaining female student representation in AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) for 2019. Out of 20,000 institutions that offer AP courses, 818 have earned the award. Boise High is one of only 639 to be recognized for achieving this important result in AP CSP.

TVMSC NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS

The Treasure Valley Math & Science Center Application process for those wishing to have their son or daughter considered for attending TVMSC starting in the 2020-2021 school year is now open!

As in past years, TVMSC will also offer two Orientation Nights for prospective families to attend and gain insights and information about TVMSC as an educational option for their children. Applicants should be students who are prepared to take advanced high school and college level classes, regardless of their current age or grade level in their other school.

  • The first Orientation Night will be held on Thursday, February 27th from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.
  • The final Orientation Night will be held on Thursday, April 2nd from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m.

Pierce Park Elementary School's PTO is holding a brick fundraiser to help raise money for an electronic reader board for the new Pierce Park Elementary School . All proceeds from this fundraiser will go toward the cost of Pierce Park’s new electronic reader board and brick courtyard. Your Boise School District is working to conserve energy. In the latest edition of Green Apple Bites (a quarterly newsletter about energy conservation), learn how our Food Service program is decreasing the use of disposable styrofoam trays, how District students are passionately working to help reduce plastic usage and to properly recycle what is used, and how schools and the District are working to reduce energy usage.

Don't think completing the 2020 Census is important? Think again! An accurate count helps support our students and programs. National Census Day is April 1st. Online access in Idaho will occur March 23. An accurate count means funding for our education programs. From preschool programs up to universities, the 2020 Census will have an impact on the funding that our education systems receive. It’s up to you, and all of us, to be counted on April 1, 2020.
